POSITION OVERVIEW

The ACLU of Nevada is seeking a Community Organizer to work on mobilizing and developing the leadership of supporters across the region to achieve short and long-term campaign objectives in our voting rights program and other campaigns. The Reno Metro Area will be the primary focus for this position, but candidates should expect to occasionally travel for work to rural and Southern Nevada. The Organizer will report directly to the Director of Communications and Campaigns and will work collaboratively with ACLUNV staff members from all teams and programs.

ORGANIZING APPROACH

The ACLU of Nevada’s organizing work is focused on integrated advocacy campaigns to achieve measurable goals that will expand civil liberties and civil rights while building the long-term power of the ACLU and the civil liberties movement. This full-time position is responsible for executing community-centered and base-building components of a campaign plan to protect local voting rights during the 2024 elections and to educate Nevadans about the ACLU. This includes utilizing an interdependent leadership structure in a campaign that grows the ACLU of Nevada supporter base, develops volunteer leaders, and shows the power of ACLU of Nevada volunteers. As a result of this campaign approach, the ACLU of Nevada’s organizing model focuses on developing volunteer leaders for the civil liberties movement, mobilizing grassroots support for our policy advocacy goals, and educating Nevada residents about voting rights through person-to-person field contacts, community meetings, and educational presentations. The ACLUNV’s organizing work is intended to engage both existing ACLU members/supporters/volunteers in the movement and to reach new constituencies.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

  • Execute programming that offers a consistent opportunity for new supporters to take action.
  • Expand support for state-based civil liberties issues among ACLU of Nevada members and non-member supporters.
  • Executing the community and field components of the voting rights campaign plan.
