Special Services Coordinator

Location: Amistad Academy Elementary School, New Haven, CT

Job Description:

Amistad Academy Elementary School is an inclusive urban charter school serving students in grades K-4 in New Haven, CT. AAES is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Services Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a certified special education teacher in the state of Connecticut (165) with a passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities:

· Case management of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPS) and 504s at the elementary school level.

· Conducting and facilitating meetings with teachers, staff and parents to develop and review IEPs and 504 plans.

· Collaborating with teachers and staff to implement effective strategies and accommodations to support students with special needs in the general education classroom.

· Providing training and support to teachers and staff on best practice,es for inclusive education and differentiated instruction

· Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and documentation for students receiving special education services

· Ensuring compliance with special education hours and related services

· Serving as a liaison between the school, family and the New Haven Board of Education for the planning and coordination of PPT meetings

· Teaching special education classes and providing hours to students with IEPs in Site 1 and 2 settings

Qualifications:

· Special education certification in the state of Connecticut (165) required

· Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field required; Maste’s degree preferred

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching special education in a school setting

· Familiarity with CT-SEDs and state/federal special education laws and regulations

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate directly and effectively with colleagues, parents and external stakeholders

· Organization skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate student records and documentations

· Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students

• 8 hour shift
