Achievement First is Hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional Near New Haven, CT

Amistad Academy Elementary School is a public charter school located in New Haven, Connecticut. We are an inclusive school that serves students grades K-4.

We are looking for a special education paraprofessional to provide instruction and support for students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs and behavior plans
  • Support students in their academic, social, and emotional development
  • Collaborate with the teacher to create and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students who require additional support
  • Assist with classroom management and behavior management strategies
  • Help students with their daily activities, such as eating, toileting, and transitioning between activities
  • Use specialized techniques and tools to support students with hearing impairments or other communication needs
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with students in a special education setting is preferred
  • College degree preferred
  • Knowledge of preschool or early childhood education principles and practices
  • Familiarity with lesson planning and curriculum development
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior intervention strategies
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is a plus
  • A passion for literacy education and promoting student engagement in learning
