Job Description

As an Underwriting Supervisor, you’ll impact the lives of everyday people and help them go from surviving to thriving with innovative digital personal finance solutions. You’ll be responsible for Service Level Adherence (SLA) to ensure underwriting is providing timely decisions back to our sales partners.

Qualifications


What you’ll do:

  • Provide ongoing and initial coaching and training to new and existing staff
  • Perform quality assurance reviews on decisions rendered
  • Assist in documenting processes and procedures
  • Assist in implementation of new processes
  • Report agent productivity to management on hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Ensure that all KPI’s for the individual team members are met
  • Prepare and deliver action plans when metrics are not met
  • Prepare and deliver corrective action when needed
  • Ensure that all department KPI’s are met
  • Monitor schedule adherence and attendance for all team members
  • Interview and hire all new team members
  • Prepare semi-annual performance reviews
  • Complete weekly one on ones with staff
  • Review and approve time off requests
  • Review and approve all time cards
  • Span of control up to 15 Achieve team members

What you’ll bring:

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex financial information, assess risk, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with members, peers and other stakeholders effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Attention to detail is crucial in reviewing financial documents, assessing risk factors, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose practical solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of relevant regulations and compliance requirements in the financial industry, including insurance or lending regulations.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in using underwriting software, spreadsheets, Google Suite, and other tools for data analysis and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years mortgage underwriting experience (mortgage or home equity)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership position
  • Ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals
  • Strong PC skills, including the Google product line including: “googlesheets” and“googledocs”,
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, but not required
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills for communication with all levels of staff.
  • Must be able to stay organized while working on multiple projects and tasks.
  • Possess the ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Dependable and ability to work independently
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and coach a team of underwriters, providing guidance on underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Workflow Management: Manage the workflow of the underwriting team, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring timely completion of underwriting activities.
  • Quality Assurance: Review underwriting decisions and files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of underwriters, keeping them updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
  • Performance Management: Evaluate the performance of underwriters, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement or professional development.
  • Underwriting Guidelines: Interpret and communicate underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures to the team, ensuring consistent application across all underwriting activities.
  • Customer Service: Collaborate with sales, customer service, and other departments to ensure excellent customer service and satisfaction throughout the underwriting process.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with senior management, sales teams, clients, and other stakeholders to provide updates on underwriting activities, discuss complex cases, and address any concerns or inquiries.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline underwriting processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall quality of underwriting services.
