ACDS Westchester is Hiring a Music Therapist Near Scarsdale, NY

Music Therapist

ACDS Westchester in Scarsdale is a full-day 4410 special needs preschool program that offers a wide range of therapies to children ages 3-5 years old. In addition to the preschool curriculum, children receive center-based physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. We also provide music therapy, family training and counseling. We facilitate a nurturing and supportive environment and offer our families education and encouragement to help their children reach their goals.

ACDS Westchester is seeking a talented and passionate full-time Music Therapist specializing in working with children ages 3-5 with cognitive disabilities to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team!

The Music Therapist is responsible for creating and facilitating quality music-based creative art activities and treatment plans suitable for 8:1:2 and 12:1:2 classrooms with the goal of instilling a love for music and enriching the school day for our students. The Music Therapist must be able to adapt activities and treatment to various developmental stages, and must be able to exercise flexibility, patience, and understanding when working with our population.

Schedule:

· Mon/Tue/Thur: 8:30am-3:00pm

· Wed: 8:30am-3:30pm

· Fri: 8:30am-2:30pm

· Full-time position, 30 hours per week.

· 45-week position.

· 7 weeks paid vacation included in school year.

Key responsibilities of the Music Therapist include, but are not limited to:

· Design and implement music-based activities that address the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of the students. Activities may include singing, playing instruments, movement to music, and improvisation.

· Modify music activities to accommodate the unique needs and abilities of each child. Use adaptive equipment and techniques to ensure all students can participate and benefit from the classroom therapy sessions.

· Establish a supportive and trusting relationship with each child. Create a safe and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through music.

· Work closely with administration, teachers, therapists, and other professionals involved in the student’s care. Collaborate to align goals and strategies for the student's development.

· Utilize music as a tool for promoting positive behaviors and self-regulation. Develop strategies for addressing challenging behaviors within the context of music therapy sessions.

· Stay informed about the latest research, techniques, and best practices in music therapy for children with developmental disabilities. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

· Assist with day-to-day classroom coverage, student arrival/dismissal, and student transitions. Must be willing to be an integral part of school operations and demonstrate flexibility when assigned to a classroom for additional assistance.

Qualifications and skills:

· Master’s degree in music therapy preferred.

· CBMT certified preferred.

· Previous experience with children ages 3-5 years old with special needs.

· Superb teamwork ethic.

· Ability to assist in classrooms as needed.

· New graduates with pediatric experience will be considered.

· Bilingual English/Spanish a plus!

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
