Job Summary:
The Purchasing agent is responsible for the procurement of goods and services such as raw materials, hardware, supplies, and services. Their goal is to acquire the forementioned items that are critical for the success of our business operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Placing orders daily for various raw materials used in the manufacturing process, while securing material certifications and verifying correct specifications were applicable.
- Placing orders for hardware, shop supplies, outsourced items/ jobs (subcontracting: plating, heat treating, grinding, etc.).
- Assist Account Executives with obtaining material quotes.
- Expediting orders for the best possible delivery dates and notifying Account Executives of any conflicts.
- Using spreadsheets (Excel) for various Bills of Material (BOM) and multiple hardware components on weekly basis.
- Working closely with vendors and assisting in maintaining a vendor rating system.
- Reporting weekly cost savings and identifying areas for potential cost savings.
- Communicating customers’ requirements to vendors and verifying the requirements are being met.
- When necessary, open credit terms with new vendors.
- Assist in maintaining the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
- Assist in obtaining vendor quality certifications for ISO, ITAR, ASD, etc.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across various levels.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; to prioritize tasks and work within tight deadlines when necessary.
- Solid analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills.
- Basic negotiation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Optional skills/Abilities:
- Understanding and securing Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation (DFAR) compliant material when required.
- Understanding the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and ASL as part of company’s quality management system.
- Proficiency in ERP and inventory management software - EPICOR a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- No direct supervision
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree or higher preferred
- 3-5 years’ experience in procurement, manufacturing/operations, or similar field.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
