Coordinator, Community Outreach and Information Services (In-Unit Position)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Community Outreach and Information Services, the Coordinator provides telephone-based counseling, education, referrals, and advocacy to youth and adult consumers, on topics such as HIV, abuse, contraception, pregnancy, abortion, reproduction, behavioral health, STIs, and prenatal health, among others. The Coordinator executes activities to support the agency’s community outreach and information services. The Coordinator also provides comprehensive sexuality education presentations to youth, young adults, adults, and professionals, and represents AccessMatters at external outreach and education events as assigned. In addition, the Coordinator assists the Director with program operations, maintains strict confidentiality, and appropriately documents client contacts, referrals, and services provided. This job is full-time, non-exempt, and hybrid-remote.

Essential Functions:

Reporting to the Director, Community Outreach & Information Services, the Coordinator, Community Outreach and Information Services will:

Coordinate, Develop, and Deliver Community Health Education

  • Coordinate the updating and developing of new educational workshops as necessary.
  • Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive sexuality education workshops for youth, young adults, adults, and professionals.
  • In collaboration with agency HRC staff, develop “train the educator” toolkits and workshops to support program activities under the agency’s HRC contract with the Philadelphia School District.
  • Implement evaluation tools to assess the goals and objectives of educational programming.
  • Maintain accurate community education data following presentation or activity.
  • Coordinate and participate in street outreach, community health fairs, special events, trainings, programs, projects, meetings, and other initiatives as assigned.

Provide Confidential Consumer Services Through Hotline Counseling and Referral

  • Provide accurate, complete and consistent information, referrals, and short-term counseling in a sensitive manner to anyone calling the Hotline. Address caller’s needs concerning sexual, reproductive, and family health topics such as: sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, prenatal care, pregnancy, abortion access, health insurance, sexual abuse, behavioral health – specifically prevention, testing, medical care, and related social services for all of the above. 
  • Provide sexual and reproductive health education and referrals around HIV, STIs, hepatitis, and other sexual health topics, to improve client health literacy, increase active participation in care decisions, and to maintain health care access.
  • Advocate for the consumer, make appointments when necessary, act as facilitator between consumer and provider when required, and assist in overcoming obstacles consumers may encounter in the healthcare system.
  • Record complete information on each call to facilitate subsequent reporting for contracts.
  • Conduct follow-up calls pertaining to consumer complaints, and complete written feedback reports.
  • Coordinate and conduct service access monitoring calls (SAM calls) to partner agencies.

Assist with Program Operations and Goal Attainment

  • Maintain close communication with supervisor and meet regularly with program team to report and review progress.
  • Collect and process program data and paperwork, maintain and regularly update program database in an accurate and timely way, and generate reports as required by management.
  • Coordinate and complete routine administrative duties including filing, shredding, collating, stocking, and other operational needs.
  • Adhere to all program guidelines and protocols and protect client information and records at all times in compliance with agency Confidentiality Policy, Pennsylvania’s Act 148 and applicable laws.
  • Maintain high ethical standards and conduct regarding confidentiality and, integrity while representing AccessMatters effectively and commendably to all stakeholders.
  • Commit to the principles and values of AccessMatters’ Leadership Framework, including supporting the organization’s efforts toward equity, social justice and public health, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Coordinate and participate in special events, trainings, programs, projects, meetings, and other duties as assigned.

Coordinate and Engage in Community Outreach and Program Promotion

  • Promote AccessMatters’ programs in the community, in community clinics, organizations, and institutions that are stakeholders in the improvements of reproductive and sexual health, through outreach, presentations, and workshops.
  • Manage the logistical details and components of program events to ensure smooth delivery of trainings, workshops, and other outreach initiatives for internal and external participants, including but not limited to: booking and setting up venues/sites; managing event schedules and deadlines; communicating instructions and timelines to participants; disseminating fliers, drafting social media posts, arranging appropriate materials, and ensuring any necessary equipment is onsite and ready for use.
  • Assist in the production, packaging, and distribution of educational materials and promotional items directed toward youth, including fact sheets, brochures, condom packets, promotional pieces, and other publications.
  • Participate in and coordinate materials review committees for AccessMatters’ programs.
  • Represent AccessMatters on coalitions and committees as relevant to agency agendas and mission.
  • Stay informed of current information, trends, and best practices in the fields of youth development, education, adolescent, reproductive, and sexual health; stay current on relevant topical information and changes in services at key providers. 
  • Participate in supplementary activities including: research, attendance at external trainings, community education, outreach, site visits, and others as assigned.
  • Draft and publish sexual health content on AccessMatters’ social media platforms.
  • Complete other projects and performs other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Exemplifies trauma-informed leadership of an effective multidisciplinary team that strives to close the service, access, and delivery gaps between clinical and community sexual and reproductive health and maternal and child health.
  • Experience with and commitment to building anti-racist, inclusive, and trauma-informed programs and organizational culture.
  • Ability and desire to work with diverse cultures, communities, and institutions across a broad spectrum of community and clinical providers within the field of sexual and reproductive health.
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to evaluate problems and identify effective solutions for managing.
  • Flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks effectively within a compressed timeframe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and inclusively, verbally and in writing, with individuals or groups.
  • Bi-lingual abilities desirable, especially Spanish, Khmer, Laotian, Chinese, or Vietnamese.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of positive youth development and empowerment.
  • Ability to engage consumers and facilitate educational programs in diverse settings. 
  • Excellent organizational, coaching and consumer support skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel within the Philadelphia five-county region.
  • Ability to work in community locations without on-site supervision.
  • Occasionally, work outside normal business hours (e.g., scheduled nights and weekends).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree preferred, especially in relevant programs of study. Relevant industry specific experience may be considered in lieu of degree where possible.
  • Previous experience working in counseling, community-level or client-level health education, especially in the fields of sexual and reproductive health; HIV/STI testing, prevention, and counseling services; and/or youth development; 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint), social media content platforms, and data entry desired.
  • Experience with web-based collaboration platforms and information management systems, portals, and intranets.
  • Hotline/call center experience desired.
  • Eligible for all city and state mandatory clearances, e.g., criminal and child abuse.

ANNUAL SALARY: $50,000.00
