Position Overview
Education Coordinator
The Education Coordinator is a teacher who provides academic support to adolescent patients in a hospital or residential setting. Education Coordinators provide direct instruction, communication with schools, parents and clinicians, and transition planning. This is a dynamic position for a teacher with interest in working one on one with students in a hospital or residential setting. The Education Coordinator is an important role in the comprehensive treatment programs within Accanto Health. Content knowledge in high school math and science and strong organizational skills are essential for success as an Education Coordinator. The Education Coordinator creates an environment where students are at ease and open to learning and discussing something new and/or challenging.

  • Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

How Education Coordinators Empower Recovery 
  • Finds creative ways to present a concept to a student to incorporate their learning style and strengths.
  • Communicates effectively and consistently with parents, schools, and clinicians about a student’s development.
  • Solves problems with solutions individualized for students in treatment for an eating disorder.
  • Serves as a member of the Clinical Team and communicates regularly with Team members on school-related issues and concerning patient behaviors in the classroom.
  • Documents patient academic information in electronic health record upon admission, when concerns/changes arise, and upon discharge as required by site.
  • Facilitates enrichment programming units for the weeks during the summer when patients do not have coursework to complete.
  • Works with schools:
    • Contact student’s schools to obtain education history, coordinate curriculum for each.
    • Assist with documentation from medical providers related to Homebound Instruction forms, medical absences, and recommending accommodations.
    • Communicates regularly with student’s teachers to update on progress, clarify curriculum and return to work as appropriate.
    • Upon discharge, communicates with home school in writing, summarizing student’s attendance in school and completed work while in treatment.
  • Works with Parents & Students:
    • Prioritizes coursework, instructs, and supports student with curriculum and assesses work for mastery.
    • Follows accommodations as listed on IEP, 504 Plan or Gifted Education Plan.
    • Contacts parents with concerns as the patient progresses though coursework.
    • Creates a weekly report with progress in each course, sent weekly via email to parents and documented in electronic health record as required by site.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required.
  • Three years’ teaching experience required.
  • Current in-state teaching license required; additional licensure in Special Education preferred.
  • National Board Certified Teacher preferred, Academically Gifted Certified preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
