Description

In the role of Groundskeeper, you will be responsible for supporting the Master Gardner in maintaining the overall appearance and upkeep of outdoor areas within the Academy University Hill community. Previous experience in grounds keeping and knowledge about the care and maintenance of plants and outdoor spaces is preferred, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Mow, edge and trim lawns and landscaped areas
• Plant, maintain, and remove plants, flowers, and trees
• Water and fertilize lawns and landscaped areas
• Prune and shape bushes and trees
• Remove debris and litter from grounds
• Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment and tools
• Prepare and maintain flower beds and gardens seasonally
• Repair and maintain hardscapes, walls, walkway and other structures on the grounds
• Assist the Master Gardner in daily tasks

Qualifications

• Familiarity with grounds keeping equipment and tools
• Physical stamina and strength, able to lift and carry heavy loads
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
• Strong knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment
• Ability to work flexible hours, and occasional holidays, as required
• Effective verbal and written communication
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Honesty, integrity, sense of humor, and pleasant demeanor – ability to stay calm under pressure
• Empathy toward the elderly and to geriatric issues and challenges

Education and Experience

• Proven experience working as a groundskeeper or similar role
• Knowledge of basic horticulture practices and principles
• High school diploma or equivalent

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 24 per week
