Director of People Development

Position Description

The Director of People Development is responsible for developing and implementing a people development strategy and program for AC Corporation. These programs will focus on enabling AC Corp to grow its skilled trades workforce by creating career paths (including roles, competencies, training, compensation, etc.) from entry level to field supervisor across multiple trades (HVAC, Pipefitting, Sheetmetal, Electrical, and Controls). The Director of People Development will report to the President of AC Corp and work closely with the Crete Regional VP and SVP of HR. The ideal candidate will have deep learning and development experience, preferably focused on developing technical talent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a people development program focused on growing and creating career paths for skilled trade roles.
  • Define skilled trade career paths including role progression, description of each role, and the qualifications for each role.
  • Develop pay bands for each role that are competitive in the market.
  • Create technical assessments to use in the promotion process and to evaluate candidates.
  • Define training curriculum for each trade and career path and determine how to resource the training (e.g. in-house, digital training platforms, partner with technical schools, etc.)
  • Evaluate and implement systems required to manage the people development program (e.g. LMS).

Position Requirements

  • Strong track record of achievement as an individual contributor and leader
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and buy-in among stakeholders
  • Desire to drive transformational improvements in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • 5 years of people development experience
  • 10 years of professional experience
  • Experience with talent development for technical roles is a plus.
  • Experience in commercial HVAC, electrical and/or plumbing is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Work, Excel, etc.).
