Job Title News Editor, Health Job Description About Your Role Health.com is seeking a fast-moving news editor to join our team of health and editorial enthusiasts. If you are a highly organized, editorially driven, digitally savvy content expert who is dedicated to the latest health news and information, this could be the job for you. This role will be focused on editing time-sensitive news articles, recruiting and managing freelance writers, and conceptualizing content programs with the full editorial team. You’ll work directly with other Editors and Editorial Directors, as well as Growth/SEO and Social teams to develop, edit, and publish health news articles, ensuring that our content is accurate, up to date, and comprehensive. You will be part of a fast-growing and collaborative team. About Your Contributions Research, pitch, assign, edit, and publish search-optimized trending and breaking news articles in our CMS Recruit, onboard, and manage a diverse pool of freelance health and medical writers who can cover health topics from a lens that impacts different communities Collaborate with the social team to create social media content, including but not limited to: videos, reels, and content graphics. Understand the brand’s style and edit with the brand voice top of mind Work with the news editorial team to help shape and define editorial strategy, increase audience, and drive user engagement Collaborate with visuals team to ensure accurate and inclusive imagery in stories Track competitive landscape to identify trends, opportunities, and gaps in coverage Track issues that arise and discuss with team members to address and resolve Participate in team meetings to contribute to shared content goals and strategy Report and write stories as needed About You 3-5 years of experience developing and editing digital news content Must have experience covering health, science, or wellness news, with the ability to recognize newsworthy trending topics and how to cover them with a clear takeaway for readers Ability to clearly translate medical jargon and academic speak into consumer-friendly, engaging copy Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid editing skills, as well as a deep understanding of what works on the web Strong copywriter, capable of writing click-worthy headlines and blurbs, all the while keeping an inclusive and trustworthy tone. Familiarity with SEO best practices College degree required, preferably in journalism or communications; health or science journalism specifically is a plus. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
