Join the Abode Energy Management (Abode) team, where you won't ever want to leave. We're fun, kind, passionate, progressive, and innovative. We are a fast-growing energy efficiency program implementor in the northeast, focusing on electrification and heat pump adoption.
Summary/Objective
Abode is a small, fast-growing company providing services to utilities and government agencies to administer residential energy efficiency programs and help accelerate the adoption of decarbonization measures (such as air-source heat pumps) by providing outreach, education, consultations, and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, community advocates, and other stakeholders. We pride ourselves in grounding our work both in aspirational ideals and pragmatic implementation. One of the essential elements for doing so is to regularly measure and report on the impacts of our work so that we and our partners learn what is working and where to focus improvements.
The Data Coordinator will work with staff across Abode to help define, measure, analyze, and cogently communicate about a broad range of data aimed at helping us get better at our work. This is a terrific opportunity for a bright entry-level professional as equally well versed in organizing and managing spreadsheets as they are in thinking critically about which questions really matter and how to succinctly and effectively communicate findings, all in service of helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change. While much of what is needed at first in this position is the willingness/ability to do a lot of recurring manual massaging of data, there will be many opportunities to grow the role and responsibilities over time.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Special Projects and working closely with other managers throughout the company, this position will include some or all of the following responsibilities:
  • Database Management
Maintain and update program databases and customer management systems, with an eye towards ensuring data accuracy and data structure compliance, facilitating efficient analysis. Work with other users of such databases to modify how we capture and track data as priorities or user requirements change and evolve.
  • Recurring Reporting
Execute recurring internal and external-facing reporting updates using templates and established processes, pulling data from various cloud-based systems, some proprietary to programs we support, and tying this data together as needed. Work with stakeholders to update templates as needed to respond to program and priority changes, and maintain and modify reporting templates to maximize efficiency and accuracy. Create new recurring reporting templates and processes as the company evolves, with guidance from managers.
  • Data Analysis
Use spreadsheets and other modeling tools to analyze proprietary and public datasets, working with managers to draw conclusions that can assist with product development and/or increase operational efficiencies.
  • Presentation of Findings
Serve as a company-wide resource to assist in presenting data-driven findings in a clear and cogent fashion, with a focus on graphs, charts, and similar visual aids.
  • Process Improvements
Assist in the development and operation of calculators, tools, or other data-related processes to help Abode's day-to-day operations work more smoothly. Partner with your manager to find ways to automate or find other ways to make recurring reporting more efficient and effective.
  • Other
Other tasks may include a wide range of short and longer-term projects assigned by your manager
Qualifications
Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant area, or at least 4 years of relevant experience focused on tasks similar to the ones outlined above.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for Excel, Microsoft Office, and data analysis. Experience with SQL, Python, and Salesforce (or similar applications) would be a plus. Comfortable learning new programs as needed.
  • Experience performing qualitative and quantitative data analysis, with an understanding of the balance between getting the details right and driving toward concise and insightful presentation of findings.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and change schedules to complete tasks promptly and diligently.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for and interest in sustainability, building science, or climate change. Previous experience working on some element of Mass Save or similar energy efficiency or decarbonization programs would be a plus, as would some knowledge of residential construction and/or building science.
