Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: As an Early Intervention Service Coordinator for the First Steps Early Intervention Program, you will play a pivotal role in supporting children aged birth to 3 with developmental disabilities, along with their families and service providers. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and maintain a caseload of children and families as assigned by the First Steps program, develop, and maintain service plans, ensuring adherence to Missouri First Steps requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS:

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and maintain a caseload of children and families as assigned by the First Steps program.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Facilitate and document the entire Intake process, including eligibility determination and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)development, within specified timelines.
  • Coordinate ongoing services and ensure timely delivery to children and families, in compliance with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate electronic records for each child in the (Web-based System Point of Entry (WebSPOE) system.
  • Review and verify the completion and accuracy of required forms and documentation before uploading.
  • Uphold the primary provider and multi-disciplinary models of service delivery in IFSPs.
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with assigned families and document interactions accordingly.
  • Organize and conduct IFSP meetings within established timelines.
  • Complete authorizations for evaluations, assessments, meetings, and services promptly.
  • Serve as a mentor for new Service Coordinators and participate in Child Find Events and community outreach activities.
  • Attend / Complete required pieces of training and meeting.
  • Collaborate with team members, families, and external agencies to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Implement new policies and procedures as provided by DESE and Abilities First.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess general knowledge in disciplines such as social work, psychology, special education, or early childhood development.
  • Familiarity with case management principles and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to manage a caseload, develop IFSPs, and maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Proficiency in using the WebSPOE data system and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to establish effective relationships.
  • Ability to work independently while keeping supervisors informed of relevant developments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle crises effectively.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a DESE-approved field (Early Childhood Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, etc.)
  • One year of documented experience working with families and young children.
  • Experience with early intervention programs preferred.

PHYSICAL CONTEXT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to perform various physical tasks such as sitting, standing, lifting, and driving.
  • Work is primarily remote, except for required pieces of training and meetings.
  • Must have high speed reliable internet access and transportation for work-related assignments.
