Abilis is Hiring a Residential Services Director Near Greenwich, CT

POSITION: Residential Services Director

PROGRAM: Adult Residential Services Assigned homes

SCHEDULED WORK TIMES: Generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. It may be necessary to occasionally work over 40 hours per week to complete duties associated with the job.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Adult Services

SUPERVISES:Directly supervises: Residential Program Managers. Indirectly supervises: all other Residential staff.

CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH: Director of Adult Services, Program Managers,

Employment Services Director and Coordinators, Residential Supervisors and DSP’s

Registered Nurses, other Administrative Team members;; individuals and families receiving

Abilis adult services. community and funding agency representatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Knowledge of total quality management and strategic planning techniques. Ability to work coordinate activities of families and professionals to maximum benefit of participants.
  • Direct supervision of program services provided including externally and internally mandated program documentation, implementation and adherence to agency policies and procedures and pertinent state and federal government regulations.
  • Complete tasks and follow through with responsibilities that are specific to the operation of residential services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of agency affairs, agency staff and agency participants.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field from accredited college or university.

Substitution for Education: Bachelors degree with a minimum of 8 years of supervising in a residential services program

Experience: Five years successful full time paid experience in a professional position providing services to people with disabilities with at least two of those five years in a supervisory role.

Substitution for Experience: A Ph.D. degree in special education, social work, psychology or related field may be substituted for two years of experience.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Residential Services Director assures the smooth day-to-day operation of Abilis’ adult residential services programs. The Director supervises and assists staff of the programs in implementing individualized support plans utilizing person-centered planning principles, providing meaningful in-service/professional education for direct support professionals and developing proposals for new activities/services.

The Residential Services Director may provide counseling and support to individuals, families and direct staff as necessary.

A. KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Program Supervision

Performance meets expectations when:

  • Administrative support, authorization and decision making for Abilis’ direct residential services serving adults are consistently provided.
  • Strategic dashboard target areas are addressed according to action steps and stated timelines.
  • Written policies and procedures governing the operation of Abilis’ residential adult services programs are maintained.
  • A continuous improvement plan is developed and implemented for all residential programs under his/her direction. (QA, QSR and licensing should be reflecting the clear monitoring of the programs.
  • Leadership is provided to assure compliance with state and federal governing agencies and regulations.
  • Residential program sites are regularly inspected and knowledge is demonstrated regarding all of Abilis’ residential services and supports.
  • Adequate record keeping systems are maintained for all Abilis Residential Services/.

KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Supervision of assigned staff

Performance meets expectations when:

  • Assigned staff receives ongoing supervision and support that includes orientation, continuing education and timely performance appraisal.
  • In coordination with program directors, a professional staff training program is developed and implemented to assure individuals served receive the highest quality services.
  • Staff receive regular feedback and guidance regarding the operation of their programs in the areas of
    • Agency/program policies and procedures
    • The need for change or development of new policies or procedures in keeping with the most promising practices in the field.
  • Participation in staff meetings occurs as appropriate.
  • Staff are recruited and hired according to program needs in consultation with the Executive Director, Finance Director and Human Services Director.
  • Abilis is represented as a progressive and equal opportunity employer to staff.
  • Requests for vacation time, compensatory time, leaves of absence, travel authorizations, changes in position, salary, in-service training and continuing education for assigned personnel are provided in a timely manner.
  • Staff/employee grievances as provided in agency grievance procedures are acted upon in a timely manner.


C.
KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Community Relations

Performance meets expectations when:

  • Communication and networking with other related service professionals occurs and helps to advance Abilis’ mission and vision.
  • Abilis’ benefits by the participation of staff on professional committees and trade organizations.
  • Assistance is provided in the development of outreach programs for Abilis programs.


D.
KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Planning and coordination with other Abilis departments

Performance meets expectations when:

  • There is regular participation and contribution as a member of the administrative team.
  • Communication among adult service programs and other Abilis programs occurs consistently.
  • Planning activities are initiated within supervised departments as well as participation in overall agency planning.
  • When requested, to complete duties of Executive Director.
  • To maintain a close working relationship with the Abilis Board of Directors and appropriate sub-committees.
