Summary of Duties

Reporting to and under the close, ongoing supervision of the Regional Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is primarily responsible for conducting functional behavior assessments and developing behavior plans ensuring the effective implementation of all treatment and programming for clients of ABA of Wisconsin.

The BCBA is primarily responsible for the consistent implementation of behavior analytic services as defined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) BCBA Task List and the BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts. In addition, BCBAs may supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA), Behavioral Treatment Therapists (BTTs), and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and others who implement behavior-analytic interventions.

In support of ABA of Wisconsin’s mission and vision, the BCBA works closely with other staff to provide the highest quality client services attainable by the organization using obtainable resources.

The BCBA is required to maintain strict confidentiality of company business records, client information, and other sensitive information at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Behavior Analytic Services
  • Performs direct and indirect assessments to identify the function of the client’s behavior. Supervises others (BCaBA, BTT, RBT) assisting with client assessments.
  • Develops treatment plans based on functions of behavior and treatment methodologies that are evidence-based and reflect current research findings.
  • Directly implements treatment plans and/or supervises others (BCaBA, BTT, RBT) in implementing skill acquisition and behavior reduction plans written by a BCBA.
  • Meets regularly with supervised staff (e.g. BCaBA, BTT, RBT) to address any program changes, complete further training and for ongoing supervision and consultation.
  • Adjusts interventions and/or intervention methods when necessary and informs and/or trains staff (e.g. BTTs/RBTs) as appropriate.
  • Provides direct instruction/ongoing supervision, training, and support to clients, staff members, and family members during regularly scheduled home and community-based visits. Includes visiting each client at least twice a month in all relevant environments.
  • Is responsible for maintaining thorough knowledge and understanding of each intervention in place for each client on his/her caseload at all times.
  • Regularly reviews treatment plans for each client to ensure service needs, interventions, and goals are up-to-date. Collaborates with family, caregivers, and all service providers as necessary to ensure continuity of care.
  • Attends all relevant meetings for clients, including treatment team meetings, IEP/ISP meetings (as needed) and staffings and works effectively as part of a clinical team.
  • Initiates services with new clients, upon receiving information from Director of Clinical Services, in a timely manner.
  • Manages caseload, prepares and submits all required documentation in a timely manner including conducting functional assessments, updating treatment plans/ progress reports and analyzing data.
  • Supervises Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), BCaBAs and graduate students if assigned to relevant cases.
  • Exhibits exceptional organizational and professional behavior by following company policies and procedures; completes tasks correctly and on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan; plans for additional resources; supports organization's goals and values.
  • Data Collection & Analysis, Documentation, and Communication
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the implemented treatment plan and modifies plan as necessary.
  • Collects data before and during the implementation of treatment plans so efficacy can be assessed and data-based decisions can be made. Collects or supervises BTTs/RBTs to collect accurate and timely data for all behavior programs using Central Reach or other data collection tools.
  • Generates reports mandated by funders and ABA of Wisconsin in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Director and other BCBAs on a regular basis (including but not limited to treatment concerns, critical incidents, scheduling issues, variables affecting client progress, etc.).
  • Identifies and resolves obstacles in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Other Duties
  • Works collaboratively with other company staff. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other staff as needed for effective operations.
  • Adheres to professional and legal requirements and principles (BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts) as well as demonstrates sound professional judgment at all times.
  • Assesses own strengths and weaknesses, pursues training and development opportunities, strives to continuously build knowledge and skills, and shares expertise with others.
  • Shall be physically, mentally and emotionally able to provide responsible care for all children, including children with disabilities. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Lowering
  • Bending
  • Crouching
  • Bending down on one knee while the other knee is elevated (in a lunge position).
  • Maintaining a position with both knees on the floor.
  • Standing quickly from a squatting position with no assistance.
  • Grasping securely with the hands.
  • Rapid forward and backward movement shifting the weight from one leg to another.
  • Walking briskly while helping to move another individual (with moderate resistance). There is no carrying of another person, simply pushing against them to move them forward. The stress might be similar to that involved in walking on a treadmill on a moderate incline.
  • Repetitive movements of the knee, back, wrist, and hands.
  • Walking with resistance (helping to move another individual) for brief periods while bending forward from the waist.
  • Walking with resistance (helping to move another individual) for brief periods while slightly crouched with both knees bent slightly.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills/Abilities

  • Possess at minimum a master's degree in behavior analysis or other natural science, education, human services, or a field related to behavior analysis.
  • Hold a certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
  • Have a license as a behavior analyst issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
  • Have a minimum of 4,000 hours of documented experience as a supervisor of less experienced clinicians delivering a Wisconsin-approved treatment model.
  • Must have completed additional BACB requirements for providing supervision to others as appropriate.
  • Maintains all required BCBA credentials and Wisconsin licensure requirements.
  • 1-3 years direct experience providing behavior analytic services to children or adults preferred.
  • Ability to take positive and constructive feedback on performance of duties in a way that is productive for ABA of Wisconsin and client(s).
  • Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated problem-solving abilities under challenging conditions. Meets challenges with resourcefulness and generates suggestions for improvement; develops innovative approaches and ideas.
  • Well organized and detail oriented. Ability to follow written protocol and accurately collect data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship-building skills with employees, supervisors, clients, and other agencies to maintain effective working teams and relationships.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making ability; displays original thinking and creativity.
  • Demonstrated user skills with Microsoft Suite or Google Suite; ability to learn and master other software and user devices.
  • Ability to travel within assigned Wisconsin regions; must have reliable transportation.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of personal auto insurance meeting Wisconsin minimum requirements.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks.
