Position

Objective:

To support the organization's commitment to sustainability by planning, managing, and coordinating the sustainability strategy for the region. Develops, documents, implements, steers, coordinates, and reports on all regional sustainability initiatives. This will be done in alignment with the global sustainability strategy, focusing on water usage, wastewater reduction, carbon reduction and other manufacturing projects.

Sustainability Management

  • Manages the organizations sustainability initiatives and improvement plans.
  • Develops key objectives and targets that drive the environmental and sustainable engineering solutions for multiple manufacturing sites in the region.
  • Seeks and develops projects targeting cost saving & sustainability or those with client-driven specific sustainability-centered goals.
  • Collaborate with the ESG committee to develop initiatives in support of the company’s sustainability vision.
  • Oversee and track sustainability project status, yearly regional goals/initiatives, KPI trends and conduct regular project status reviews with the leadership team.
  • Manages the regional consolidation of NA sites’ carbon, energy & water data required for Global reporting.
  • Leads and develops Sustainability initiatives that fosters teamwork, open communication, and collaboration.
  • Communicate and promote concepts of sustainability and resilience to promote sustainability culture and guide business decisions.
  • Develops and manages relationships with sustainability-related subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, designers, and clients to advance common goals.
  • Collaborate with Business Development on sales pursuits and client engagement.
  • Contributes as subject matter expert (SME) to sustainability charrette (design collaboration) meetings on new projects targeting sustainability.
  • Collects sustainability best practices and share those efforts across regions and within the Global Sustainability Network.
  • Maintains current knowledge of market and industry trends related to sustainability and resilience, including rating system updates and code changes.
  • Participates in external organizations, conferences, and events beneficial to community engagement, continued learning, program expansion, and business development to help create and direct the company’s sustainability vision.

Project Management

  • Supports preparation of capex demands by supplying cost details once established.
  • Evaluate projects/installations when they have been put into operation to ensure that the stipulations in the capex are met.
  • Support the invitation of bid proposals, consult with suppliers, and review quotations.
  • Find sources and obtain prices from catalogues or vendors and supports the preparation of purchasing orders.
  • Support the purchase of general and specialized equipment, materials, or business services for use by the organization.
  • Support the determination or negotiation of contract terms and conditions, recommend contract awards with the organization to the Director of Engineering and legal.
  • Support the preparation of purchasing files, reports, and price lists.
  • Supports budgeting, scheduling, and other managerial aspects of environmental projects.
  • Supports the selection and coordination of contractors needed for environmental projects.
  • Supports the design, planning and project oversight for project implementation.
  • Enforces food safety and personal safety protocols during project construction.

A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED skills and knowledge IS PREFERRED

  • Bachelor's degree: Environmental Science, Engineering, or related study with emphasis in sustainability management.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sustainability management
  • Knowledge about sustainability frameworks, such as the UN Global Goals, ESG, GRI standards etc.
  • 5 years experiences with manufacturing plant(s) in areas of sustainable engineering, maintenance, or process.
  • Knowledge of the baking or food manufacturing industry a plus
  • Project management experience, desired
  • Knowledge in accounting and budgeting.
  • Possess solid problem solving and analytical thinking.
  • Approachable and effectively interact with all employee levels, management, subcontractors, clients/customers, and vendors.
  • Management experience, able to engage others that are not direct reports.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and timely documentation/reporting
  • Professional verbal and presentation skills; written business communication skills
  • Active listening skills, responsive, and strong follow-up practices
  • Familiar with basic lean concepts, and continuous improvement methods and tools
