Overview

AAA Life Insurance Company is seeking a Manager, Analytics Engineer to support the building and maintaining of the data infrastructure essential to AAA Life’s business intelligence, data governance and operational reporting efforts. You will support data processes end-to-end, including data ingestion, transformation, and visualization, and design data architecture to facilitate analysis and ensure best-in-class operational reliability and modularity.

The Manager, Analytics Engineer will manage and develop a team and is a champion for analytics development and best practices. This individual will have experience with Data Build Tool (DBT) and other data analytics tools, as well as a background in visualization and reporting. Leadership and management skills are essential. This position requires responsibility for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and analytical data models for a set of business units. 

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team and balance priorities of multiple stakeholders to optimize business outcomes.
• Partner with the Business System Analysts (BSAs) to translate business needs in the form of Intake Requests into analytic engineering tasks.
• Lead team through implementation of Intake Requests ensuring that business need is met, and approach taken is consistent with engineering best practices.
• Become data SME for assigned business units.
• Ability to diagram complex technical processes and translate abstract problems into discrete technology actions.
• Design and implement data pipelines with DBT, Python, and GitHub using software and data engineering best practices to ensure that data is accurate, reliable, and timely.
• Monitor daily job execution and fix issues as they arise to ensure SLAs are met with internal stakeholders.
• Enhance data warehouse design using data modeling best practices and identify gaps in our data collection capabilities.
• Collaborate with product and engineering, governance, and security on requirements for data capture, retention, and security.
• Develop reports and dashboards using to answer key business questions clearly, accurately, and with minimal latency.
• Coordinate with Data Platform Engineering team, Enterprise Data Analyst Team, Data Governance Team, and IT Teams to align with change management processes and to ensure performance, processes and access is optimal for our reporting solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or a related technical field required.
• A minimum of 5 years experience in data engineering and analytics, with a focus on ETL development, data modeling, and data analysis.
• Expertise in SQL and ETL optimization techniques, especially within cloud-based data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, as well as use of command line and version control software (git).
• Experience with supporting and implementing a visualization tool for self-serve data reporting such as looker, tableau, or PowerBI.
• Proficiency in Python including the Pandas and Numpy libraries.
• Ability to leverage tools, business intuition, and attention to detail for data validation and QA.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly when explaining technical or complex matters to less technical co-workers.
• A high degree of motivation to be proactive and go above and beyond the task at hand.
• Experience mentoring, managing, and guiding junior data engineers and analysts.
• Actuarial and insurance industry knowledge preferred.
