Job Description:
A-Tech is looking for a Field Technician to join our team of highly talented and motivated individuals. The right candidate must possess the ability to follow instructions well, work independently, prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines and be a leader amongst your peers. Are you that person?
A Field Technician must have knowledge of how to perform environmental assessments, clearance testing, and monitoring activities in accordance with all applicable regulations. A Field Technician should know how to properly assess a property, safely obtain samples, and complete all required documentation. This position is reserved for individuals who possess Building Inspector and Contractor Supervisor certifications and Lead Sampling Technician certification or equivalent.
Job Duties:
The essential functions include, but not limited to the following:
  • Travels to project sites to conduct environmental assessments, clearance testing and project monitoring.
  • Identify, comprehend, and apply regulatory requirements to each project and situation.
  • Obtain appropriate samples comprehensively and discreetly. Obtain proper quantity of samples for the project, per EPA and Washington State Requirements.
  • Quantify all materials sampled.
  • For each project, input field data into web-based program in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Regularly document all project tasks occurring on the project, including any deficiencies of the abatement team or any regulatory agencies, customers, unauthorized or authorized visitors to the project site.
  • Complete all required documentation in a thorough manner, including hand/electronic draft of floor plans for assessments.
  • Be able to properly communicate, oversee and direct abatement company staff and supervisors, for all monitoring and clearance projects.
  • Proficient in the use of a phase contrast microscope and knowledgeable in NIOSH sampling methods.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Must be able to communicate with clients in a clear and professional manner. 
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of building design and names of common construction materials.
  • Have basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines for EPA, Cal-OSHA safety, Asbestos, Lead and Mold. 
  • Must be able to identify, property quantify and document hazardous materials (mercury, freon, PCBs and radioactive exit signs).
  • Understand Infection Control Protocols and how to implement them.
  • Must be able to safely and successfully operate an XRF analyzer.
  • Basic knowledge of chain-of-custody procedures. 
  • Understanding of respiratory requirements (respirator use, medical surveillance, fit testing, etc.). 
  • Autonomous and self-starter. Able to problem solve and communicate to direct report in a timely manner. 
Required Certifications: 
  • Must have current Building Inspector and Contractor Supervisor certifications.
  • Must have or obtain Washington Lead sampling certification required.
  • Have a NIOSH 582 equivalency certification to analyze asbestos air PCM samples. 
  • Must be able to pass an asbestos physical, including a pulmonary function test and have the ability to wear a negative pressure respirator.
Other Requirements: 
  • A minimum of one year of relevant field experience.
  • Must be able to apply math skills and use mathematical equations.
  • Must remain clean shaven to appropriately retain seal on respirator.
  • Must maintain all certifications.
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.
  • Maintain clean driving record to drive company vehicle. 
Physical Requirements 
  • Must be able to traverse various types of buildings and roofs/crawl spaces/attics to collect samples.
  • Must be able to lift and handle field equipment: 10-15 pounds frequently, 20-40 pounds moderately, and 40 pounds on occasion. 
  • Must be able to spend the vast majority of your working day standing or walking around on project sites.
  • Ability to travel and spend long periods of time in a vehicle.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
