Together, these offices and inventory locations maintain an extensive and comprehensive inventory of track materials across the nation. SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant will support the accounting department by contributing to the preparation of the company’s financial reporting and maintaining procedures. This includes preparing monthly journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, reviewing expense coding, monitoring intercompany entries and loans, supporting the accounts receivable/payables functions as needed, and participating in special projects to help drive improvement. The Associate may interact with his or her supervisor several times a week to receive guidance and feedback.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform monthly close of multiple legal entities which includes bank recs, journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, review of expenses, and identifying & researching large variances.
  • Monitor intercompany transactions and reconcile.
  • Prepare payroll and benefit related journal entries.
  • Review and record P card transactions.
  • Record fixed asset purchases, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Participate in personal property & sales tax filings and communicate with tax entities.
  • Assist with monthly AR billing.
  • Generate monthly reporting as needed.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Accounting or Finance program required.
  • At least 2 years of accounting experience required .
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 products e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Experience with accounting software. Dynamics 365 a plus.

  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to assertively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Demonstrated capacity for gathering and scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions.
  • Moderate-to-expert knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to comprehend and adhere to all A&K Railroad Materials Inc policies, including those related to scheduling and attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest, honesty, and ethical conduct.
