Job OverviewA&K Railroad Materials is currently accepting applications for a Metal Fabricator. This individual will make custom jigs and fixtures for various projects, develop and make custom pieces for rail cars, and basically make custom designs as needed from concept to reality. The successful candidate should have skills including MIG welding, TIG Welding, Plasma cutting, operating layout tools, shears, brakes, punches, saws, grinders, torches, etc. Must be able to read and understand technical drawings. Additional skills and relatable experience is favorable
RequirementsResponsibilities:
  • Determines project requirements, such as material needed and assembly sequences.
  • Has knowledge of and is able to follow basic safety practices.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Standard protocols are to be followed to maintain a safe environment, including but not limited to ear plugs, gloves, safety glasses, steel toe boots and appropriate clothing.
  • Occasionally weld in awkward positions, such as bending, stooping, leaning, crouching, pulling, and pushing.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping, organizing, and cleaning.
  • Must work well in team environments and independently.
  • Must be able to maintain regular attendance.
  • Some travel may be required.
Qualifications & Skills:.
  • 3 years minimum of welding experience required.
  • 3 years minimum of fabrication experience required.
  • Experience in heavy and light steel fabrication and welding.
  • Experience making custom jigs/fixtures for different projects.
  • Ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Mathematical Skills: Must be proficient in the use of tape measures, calipers, and other metric measurements, and basic math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions.
  • Must be able to interact professionally, appropriately, and courteously with customers, co-workers and other outside parties.
  • Experience operating Plasma cutter, oxy acetylene torch, bandsaw, shear, lathe, Bridgeport mill, and punch press.
  • Knowledge of safe/proper rigging. chains, chokers, shackles, chain falls, etc.
  • Basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and certifications.
  • Forklift And heavy equipment experience
  • Electrical wiring, hydraulic and mechanical assembly
Physical Requirements
  • Must possess physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push/pull 50-pound loads.
  • Capability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to stand, walk, jump, and climb stairs for extended periods, while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 50 pounds.
