8th Ave Food & Provisions is Hiring a $29.75 Lead Mill Operator, Rotating Shift/Schedule Near Carrington, ND
Business Unit Description:
8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a growing organization made up of businesses that produce and sell quality products including pasta, peanut butter, granola, and fruit and nut trail mixes to retail, foodservice and ingredient customers. The company was formed in October 2018 through a combination of Post Holdings’ private brands businesses and is owned by Post Holdings and funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (“THL”), a private equity firm.
Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
Our Lead Mill Operator is responsible for the operation of grain handling, cleaning, milling, regrind, product transfer systems and ingredient addition systems at optimum levels to ensure designated quality levels of finished products and extraction levels while according to Safety and Food Safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Schedule: 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am (Rotating every 8 weeks)
Week 1 - Monday/Thursday/Friday
Week 2- Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates milling equipment at optimum levels to ensure designated quality and extraction levels including ingredient addition systems to meet desired addition rates for formula-based products
Monitors production schedule to ensure press bins have proper grades and quantities for pasta products being produced along with the regrind system and works with packaging personnel to keep the system running efficiently without mixing different grades of product
Makes decisions in the absence of Management, provides supervision and training to Mill Operator, investigates quality incidents, and provide recommendations for corrective actions
Performs duties within the policies for safety and food safety including maintaining Master Sanitation schedule and HACCP documentation for assigned area of responsibility
Maintain communications with other departments to maintain the orderly flow of product to and from the mill
Ensures that Mill Operators perform work within the established policies and standards for safety and food safety
Partner with company leadership to proactively identify and execute on continuous improvement opportunities in the areas of: safety, food safety, quality, productivity, and sanitation
Other duties, as assigned
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution
Must have experience as a Mill Operator
Must successfully complete IAOM correspondence course in Milling Science or Bachelors’ degree in Milling Science in lieu of completion of this course
Must be able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
Proven ability to lead staff, ability to develop good working relationships and work independently
Mechanical ability to operate and maintain processing equipment
Excellent written, oral and computer skills
Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Previous experience in wheat milling
Physical Requirements: Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Must be able to balance, bend, crouch, sit, kneel and stoop for 3 hours per shift
Must be able to climb up/down ladders, and reach above shoulders for 3 hours per shift
Must be able to work in dusty environment and confined space for 3 hours per shift
Must be able to push/pull and use fine motor skills for 3 hours per shift
Must be able to lift up-to 50 pounds for 3 hours per shift
Must be able to lift-up to 10 pounds for 6 hours per shift
Must be able to work in high heat/humid environment for 6 hours per shift
Must be able to feel and grasp for 6 hours per shift
Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours per shift
Must be willing to wear a respirator, as needed
Must be able to make fine distinctions by sound
Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of written or spoken word, and distinguish objects or equipment visually
