The Role

8 Rivers is searching for an experienced Senior Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to assist in developing our zero-emissions technology portfolio, from conception to launch. The role involves an expertise in control and instrumentation for designing, developing, installing, managing, and maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. The successful candidate will be tasked with leading internal control design aspects of novel technology development and commercial project execution while working in a fast-paced, innovative, and creative environment. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and consultants will be critical; therefore, the successful candidate must have good communication, organizational and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed design controls’ documentation including control philosophies, system architecture, control narratives, functional descriptions and logic diagrams.
• Develop RFQ packages for control system procurement (DCS, PLC, SCADA, etc.), instrumentation packages, valve specifications, and consulting services.
• Select instrumentation, analyzers, and controls equipment based on project needs while balancing accuracy, repeatability, reliability, maintainability, and costs.
• Responsible for P&ID development in conjunction with the technology development and process engineering teams.
• Perform safety-related calculations and provide input to HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and other safety reviews as directed.
• Participated in control system design, process flow diagram, P&ID, and HAZOP reviews.
• Check, review, and develop engineering estimates, proposals, standards, and operational guides working with other disciplines.
• Work with equipment vendors on scope, cost, and operability.
• Resolve process control issues by developing control strategies on first-of-a-kind technologies to drive innovation and support project deliverables.
• Layout, review, and create control panel designs as necessary to support project deliverables.
• Support 8 Rivers’ C&I subject matter expert with C&I department template creation and implementation to the business.

Essential Skillset, Education/Qualification, Certification Attainment

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering. Masters’ is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in controls and instrumentation engineering.
• Oil and gas, nuclear or chemicals’ industry design experience; operating experience is a plus.
• Ability to read, create, and modify schematic, wiring, and loop diagrams to support project deliverables.
• Understand and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards
• General understanding of major DCS and PLC vendors (Siemens, Emerson, Yokogawa, Triconex, Honeywell and Rockwell) control systems along with their strengths, limitations, and suitability for project purpose is beneficial.
• Cyber security compliance experience a plus.
• Knowledge of ANSI, API, IEC, ISA, and NFPA standards as related to controls and instrumentation.
• Experience producing loop diagrams and P&ID’s.
