Position: Director of Risk Management

We are currently seeking a Director of Risk Management to develop and manage the firm’s risk management, internal audit (outsourced), and compliance programs using highly developed communication, collaboration, and management skills. An effective Director will provide valuable and influential risk insight and metrics to support the company’s strategic objectives, governance, and operations.

The Director position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and manages a small team of risk management and compliance professionals. This position has an open line of communication with the Managing Directors, the Co-CEOs, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Director will apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices and escalate, manage, and report control issues with transparency. They will serve on various committees and will manage the Audit & Risk Management Committee process.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the wealth and asset management industry and the current regulatory environment and will have significant experience in the design and execution of a risk management framework for a bank investment management function and/or an SEC-registered investment advisor. The Director of Risk Management provides leadership within the risk management team and the company around risk activities as they relate to risk identification, risk assessment, and effective risk mitigation.

The Director will support the Company’s strategic objectives while driving its risk management culture by collaborating with functional area leaders to understand and implement sound risk management controls for both standard business processes and strategic initiatives. A particular focus will be to work collaboratively with the Director of Information Technology in the design and oversight of the firm’s vCISO program.

The Director of Risk Management will facilitate awareness of and adherence to risk frameworks, policies, and standards through training, collaboration, communication, and mentoring. The Director will represent the risk management function internally and externally. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to adapt messaging to various audiences clearly and succinctly, from internal meetings to board-level and client due diligence presentations. The Director will serve as a liaison with federal and state regulators for all exam-related activities.

Qualifications/Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree; 10 years’ experience in risk management, audit, compliance, or other control-related function in a financial services firm, regulatory organization, consulting firm, or a combination thereof; previous experience managing staff.
  • Deep risk management and compliance expertise within the financial service industry, including a clear understanding of risk measurement frameworks, taxonomy, and related risk management techniques and tools. Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST.

This is a full-time position based in Boston, MA. Boston Trust Walden is currently operating in a hybrid manner with a mix of in-office and remote work. Specifics are dependent upon the team and should be discussed with the hiring manager.
