American Water Contract Services Group proudly partners with the City of Camden to provide water and wastewater services to the community. The City of Camden’s water supply, serviced by American Water Contract Services Group, comes from groundwater that is treated at two facilities prior to delivery to the distribution system. The treatment facilities, Morris-Delair Water Treatment Plant located in Pennsauken and Parkside Water Treatment Plant located in Camden, collectively treat more than 21 million gallons per day. The two water treatment plants provide safe, clean, and reliable water to approximately 46,000 residents in the Camden community. We are in search of a dynamic leader who will report to our Senior Director and assist in managing the Camden operational strategy. Apply now for immediate consideration!

Primary Role

  • Oversee operations and capital activities for a specific contract for the Contract Services Group.
  • Ultimate responsibility and accountable for overall operational and capital success, capital program delivery, financial performance, contract compliance, and customer satisfaction for the assigned project location.
  • Primary responsibilities include managerial oversight and providing strategic leadership of the assigned project location with keen emphasis on the client relationship.
  • Oversee the onsite planning and delivery of contract activity to ensure that it meets the contract requirements and needs of the key stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  • Effectively lead employees and processes to achieve efficient operations and service excellence. Foster employee growth and development through guidance, training, coaching, and succession planning. Communicate regularly with employees. Ensure employee awareness, and compliance with, prescribed AW Policies and Procedures.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders, including municipal customer stakeholders, environmental regulators, employees and subcontractors, including regular communication through face-to-face meetings, and written and verbal correspondence as appropriate.
  • Maintain client-customer satisfaction through reliable and efficient operations, and with good communications.
  • Manage the safe and reliable operation of water utility systems. Ensure public and employee safety in service delivery.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations and ensure that operational integrity (quality, environment, reliability, health, safety, security, etc.) is maintained.
  • Maintain contractual compliance.
  • Ensure robust AW Employee performance management plans are in place and being followed.
  • Achieve business unit financial targets. Achieve approved Financial Targets and meet Financial Reporting deadlines, for both operations and maintenance expenses and capital construction programs.
  • Develop corrective action plans for expense items that exceed budget, or revenue that is below budget.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective leadership and management. Demonstration of visible “leadership-by-example”, and values-based leadership.
  • Strong IT skills - proficient in MS Office especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and comfortable with integrating technology into operational and capital processes.
  • Strong team leader/influencer with good relationship & networking skills.
  • Can provide troubleshooting to complex problems, even those beyond area of expertise, to ensure that a broad range of potential issues is addressed including safety, environmental, financial, regulatory compliance, personnel, municipal contracting and individual project issues.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety and environmental compliance requirements in the context of the water utility industry.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication skills both written & oral.
  • Process-orientation mindset, and comfortable with driving change management activities.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Highly motivated, innovative, flexible & enthusiastic attitude.
  • Must have ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals and possess excellent functional / technical skills.
  • Negotiation skills and experience, preferably within the context of municipal contracting.
  • Strong public speaking experience a must.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues, and achieve outcomes that effectively balance customer, company, and employee requirements.
  • Working knowledge of managing and implementing water utility infrastructure capital improvement programs.
  • Working knowledge of water system operations and maintenance requirements, including regulatory compliance.

Experience/Education

  • BA/BS in environmental, engineering, or business administration preferred or relevant equivalent experience.
  • PE and/or water/wastewater operator license desired.
  • 7 years related experience with expert knowledge of the complete water and wastewater system operation with at least 12 years of overall experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a municipal government setting.
  • Working experience with contract management and negotiation, preferably working on services contracts within municipal market.

Travel Requirements

  • Less than 25%.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Highest level drinking water treatment certification within the state desired.

Work Environment

  • Full-time onsite office/plant/field environment.
