In September of 2019, American Water was awarded a 50-year contract to privatize the water and wastewater utilities at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. The Joint Base is comprised of US Air Force Randolph Air Force Base, Lackland Air Force Base, and US Army Fort Sam Houston. Our responsibilities include system capital investment, regulatory and environmental compliance, planning, asset recapitalization, and long-term operations and maintenance. American Water will provide water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution across Joint Base San Antonio’s army and air force installations, serving a combined population of over 78,000. As a whole, the water system includes approximately 1 million linear feet of water pipe, 1400 hydrants, 5,000 valves, 30 wells, and 12 tanks. The wastewater collection system and includes approximately 700,000 linear feet of pipe, 2000 manholes, and 24 lift stations. This position performs technical work in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater systems. This position also assists in the Operations of the Water/Wastewater Treatment plants on an as needed basis. Annual average of time this position works in Repair & Maintenance versus Operations is as follows: 90% Repair & Maintenance and 10% Operations. Position may require some overtime, weekend, and holiday work as well as On-Call responsibility.
