Job Description Summary The Los Angeles Times is looking for a part-time editorial assistant to support the newsroom. Job Description Applicants must be team players, organized and self-starting. They should be smart, flexible, adaptive, eager to please and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Preference will be given to individuals with journalistic ambition, as the editorial assistants do research and some basic web production. Responsibilities: Pick up, sort, deliver and manage mail and postal packages Transcribe calls to the Readers’ Representative line Pick up, sort and deliver newspapers from the mailroom to the newsroom Manage back issues and contest consideration newspaper copies Sort incoming books for review Maintain and distribute personal protective equipment to staff Keep printers supplied with paper and toner cartridges installed and in full supply Fact-check for editorial sections and projects, plus light web production Occasional work with the Entertainment team on award nights is possible Other duties as needed Requirements: Able to lift and transport up to 30 pounds Skilled at handling clerical duties Strong communication skills; must respond quickly to email and Slack requests from staff Knowledge of computers, software systems and tools Must be able to work cooperatively and adaptively in a team setting At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent This position is listed as Editorial Assistant and is included in the Los Angeles Times Guild. The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $22.46 - $22.69 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs.
