59th Judicial District - Elk and Cameron Counties is Hiring a Probation Officer Near Emporium, PA

Investigates, advises and counsels individuals on probation or parole to foster personal, social and economic adjustment in the community. Position may also coordinate and implement specific programs or groups that assist or augment the overall mission of the Probation and Parole Office, such as community service programs, or others specific to adults or juveniles as required or directed.

Role and Responsibilities

Supervises adult and juvenile probation clients through reviewing activities to determine compliance with court ordered conditions; provide counseling and other services necessary that lead to personal, social, and economic adjustments. Determines whether or not they are violating probation conditions.

Initiates actions for a juvenile delinquency case from inception to conclusion, including but not limited to scheduling an intake conference, conducting the intake conference, coordinating and attending any court hearings (adjudication, disposition, review, revocation, etc.) and any visits to schools, homes, or placement facilities.

Files appropriate petitions if necessary.

Completes related records, court orders and petitions, and plans to address the needs of the individual in an attempt to meet court mandated activity and conditions of supervision.

May be responsible for community service programs through identification and coordination with worksites for appropriate participants.

Contacts clients through various means and assists with collecting fines, fees, and costs as needed.

May conduct field visits, visits to clients in county or state correctional facilities or juveniles in juvenile detention facilities.

Attends court hearings as requested or required, providing testimony if called upon to do so.

Conducts drug and alcohol screenings on clients to detect the use of substances or alcohol.

Completes pre-sentence investigation or pre-dispositional social summary reports as directed.

Conducts risk assessment screenings of adult or juvenile offenders.

Enters sentencing data into the statewide sentencing guidelines database.

Maintains detailed and accurate case information in the Case Management System.

Handles inter-state and inter-county transfer cases.

Investigates pre-parole plans to determine if they are satisfactory.

Makes or assists in making arrests; prepares necessary documentation.

Responsible for emergency and/or on-call duties, in rotation with others, for adult and juvenile population.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.

Must attend the Basic Probation Academy and Juvenile Academy within one (1) year of hiring.

Familiarity with Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal/Juvenile Procedure and the Juvenile Act.

Must have a valid Driver's License and pass a criminal background check.

Regular attendance at the job site is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
