Part-time K-6 Music Instructor for 2024-2025 School Year

St. Mary School, located in Aberdeen, WA, has an opening for a part-time K-6th grade Music Instructor. This position seeks candidates with experience working with a wide age range of students in a classroom setting involving music instruction.

The position begins with the opening of the academic school year 2024-25 and is not benefit eligible.

Responsibilities:

• Teaches knowledge and skills in the music curriculum to students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the approved curriculum.
• Adapts curriculum to the needs of the students with varying intellectual abilities, and accommodates a variety of instructional needs.
• Evaluates each student’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding in relationship to the level being taught; communicates with homeroom teacher individual student’s progress.
• Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music in relationship to the level being taught.
• Follows Policies and Procedures as set forth by Administration and the Archdiocese of Seattle.
• Provides a clean, safe, faith-filled and nurturing classroom environment.
• Participates in staff meetings as needed
• Maintains appropriate records for students.
• Establishes and maintains standards for acceptable student behavior using appropriate classroom management techniques.
• Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others.
• Coordinates two music programs-Christmas and Spring Concerts.
• Incorporates teaching/reviewing of Mass music into weekly lessons.
• All other duties as assigned.

Schedule: To be determined and mutually agreed upon by employee and administration. Current music instruction occurs on Thursdays and the position is currently operating at 9 hours per week.

Wage: $17.75-$20.00/hr.

Any offered wage is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.

This position is part-time and not benefits eligible.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of music instruction/curriculum and the ability to implement it

• Extended experience working with and instructing elementary aged children

• Evidence of ability to interact collaboratively with students, parents, and
  administration.

• Evidence of excellent oral and written skills.

• Must pass background check and take Safe Environment class.

• Practicing Catholic (preferred, but not required)
