Reports To: VP Retail Sales

POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth and College Advisor provides advice and assistance regarding the college funding process, budget counseling, how to build credit and other areas relating to member’s financial needs. Engages team members and members in conversations to help them gain an understanding of their money matters and how the college funding process relates to them. Recommends additional products and services, keeping the members best interest in mind. Performs student loan applications accurately and in accordance with current practices. Provides ongoing assistance to members and team3 with questions and problems regarding college funding, student loan applications (in-school and refinance), payments, draw requests, and other similar transactions.

Uses resources within and outside of organization to plan and conduct successful student lending training. Develops resources within 3Rivers through group and individual training, branch visits, accountability and support to increase student lending activity and referrals from sales resource centers. Works closely with and builds relationships with local high schools and colleges to help build community understanding of money matters and the college funding process. Uses resources within and outside of organization to create streamlined resources to be utilized by other team members. Uses all research tools available to research and resolve issues. Documents any necessary corrections and adjustments.

Proficient in all areas of the college funding process to include federal and private student loans, FAFSA and all regulatory changes and updates and able to clearly communicate to internal and external members. Clarifies needs and explains services to create understanding and generate solutions. Ensures that all college funding and student loan information on The Stream is current and up to date. Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor and team members, reports problems, developments, changes, and other important information regarding responsibilities. Presenter for student lending events; taking the time to explain concepts and avoid jargon.

What does this position do?

Establishes a presence in the communities we serve by developing effective relationships with business resources and networking leads. Strengthens and deepens relationships within the communities they represent. Broadens and deepens existing member relationships and explores new opportunities for prospective members through financial wellness conversations. Uncovers Money Matter needs, recommends and sells appropriate products and services to maximize the profitability of the member’s relationship. Combines service experience with business needs in a way that makes sense for the membership by blending sales and service, using sound judgment and business practices.

Who does this position work with to get the job done?

Routinely collaborates with community organizations and all resource centers to ensure that communication is consistent and that membership needs are met in a timely and efficient manner. Partners with branch teams in order to be a touch point through development and support. Provides flexible and responsive support to the entire workforce in order to produce results year after year.

What does the work from this position produce or generate?

Engages in the local community to generate leads and produces new members. Deepens member engagement, increases wallet share and self-service activity usage. Provides a positive sales and service experience which includes effective and timely service. Accurate and well-thought-out management of information generated to use in 3Rivers’ decision making.

Knowledge Requirements

Knowledge of federal and private student loans, FAFSA, and ability to apply all regulatory changes and updates.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written & presentation skills.
Ability to interact with the public in a manner which promotes the interest of the Credit Union.
Ability to adapt communication style, content, and format for varying circumstances and audiences of all levels and functional areas.
Strong analytical & problem solving skills & ability to multi-task.
Basic knowledge of credit union products, both loan and deposit.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Efficiency, accuracy & detail-oriented focus.
Working knowledge of MS Office software, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to learn & utilize programs.
Ability to establish & maintain positive working relationships with management, membership, team members & vendors.
Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
Adheres to all federal, state and credit union regulations and policies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or business or equivalent of 2 years of relevant college funding experience preferred
2 years of credit union experience preferred
