On behalf of our client, a locally-owned warehousing and materials transportation company headquartered in Weedsport NY, we are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic individual for the Controller position. The Company has a long history and deep ties to the community and values the efforts and dedication of all employees who make the Company successful. The chosen candidate will be a key member of the management team working directly with Company executives.

The Controller plans and directs the accounting operations of the Company to ensure that financial data is compiled accurately, on time and supports current and future Company initiatives. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implementing and maintaining a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Overseeing the production of periodic financial reports; ensuring that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Recommending benchmarks that will be used to measure the Company’s performance.
• Producing the annual budget and forecasts; reporting significant budget differences to the management team.
• Providing timely financial metrics and analysis, with emphasis on current Company performance, capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Working with external auditors and providing needed information for the annual audit.
• Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

The position supervises the Accounting Department staff including hiring, training and monitoring performance to ensure a high level of department professionalism and accountability.

Qualifications - The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 8 years of progressive professional experience and experience managing Accounting Department staff. Prior experience in the Controller position is highly desired.

The successful candidate will also possess superior communication skills (verbal and written), excellent organizational skills and attention to detail along with the ability to engage and motivate direct reports to perform at a high level. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

The Company offers a competitive compensation package. The listed base pay ranges is supplemented by a profit sharing bonus paid on a monthly basis. The benefits package includes group health and dental insurance, 401(k) with a match, life insurance, paid time off, etc.
