Youth Leader Specialist III (Assistant Supervisor)
The 22nd Judicial Circuit-Juvenile Division seeks applicants for a Youth Leader Specialist IIII
(Assistant Supervisor). Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or
University in Social Science, Administration of Justice, Corrections or related field; or 5 years of
relevant experience in child care in a residential setting or other secure setting. Previous
experience in employee supervision is preferred. Must be a minimum of twenty-one years of age.
Employees in this position are required to give permission on an annual basis for the insurance
company to run a driver’s license record, as employees may have to transport a juvenile on an
occasional basis. Youth Leader Specialist employees that do not drive or that are not approved
for driving the court van, will still be required to transport juveniles on an occasional basis, to
accompany the driver. Starting salary is $49,894. Position is eligible for Public Service Loan
Forgiveness.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASS TITLE: Youth Leader Specialist III (Assistant Supervisor)
STARTING SALARY: $49,894
REPORTS TO: Watch Supervisor (YLS-IV)
CLASS DEFINITION: Under daily supervision of the Watch Supervisor (YLS-IV). The Youth
Leader Specialist III is a specialist in juvenile detention. Primary responsibilities include provide
unit coverage when needed, assist supervising youth leader staff, assure adequate staff coverage
in the absence of the watch supervisor, enforce the rules, policies/procedures of the Family Court
– Juvenile Detention Center, ensure safety/security of the Detention Center in a trauma informed
setting. Work in conjunction with detention and court leaders to help coordinate and improve the
care of youth, utilize trauma informed principals and oversee the admissions and releases of
detainees. Requires shift work on an assigned shift and at times, as needed for coverage on other
shifts. Assumes the responsibility of the Detention Center in the absence of the Superintendent,
Assistant Superintendent and Watch Supervisor. Requires performing duties in a secure
institutional setting subject to constant video surveillance for purposes of security and the welfare
of the detained youth.
The Detention Center is a temporary holding facility for the Family Court. This position does not
include casework planning or case work counseling responsibilities. The YLS staff are scheduled
to work an 8.25-hour work day and are on duty and paid during the youth meal periods. An unpaid
meal period is not scheduled in the work day and the YLS are allowed to eat with the youth at no
cost. However, a YLS may request to add a half to a full hour to their work day for an unpaid lunch
period if they desire a separate lunch period. The YLS will get two fifteen-minute breaks (20
minutes when coverage permits) per day where they are away from the youth and can eat their
own meals during that time. Personal food is never eaten in front of the youth.
