POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

To recruit, interview, train, supervise, and assist volunteer mentors in order to coordinate the overall mentoring program to aid youth in the Juvenile Justice, and Family Court System.

50% - Mentoring services.

  • Establish and maintain community collaborations and resources for growth & development of the mentor/volunteer program.
  • Make weekly contacts with matched mentors, mentees, and families.
  • Supervise and participate in youth and mentor activities.
  • Planning and implementation community based activities.
  • Utilize virtual platforms as needed.
25% - Program Support.
  • Recruit mentors/volunteers.
  • Contact and meet with community stakeholders and members, such as area businesses, service organizations, professional organizations, governmental agencies, Universities, Community Colleges, and other programs to acquire, and maintain support for the mentoring program.
10% - Program administration.
  • Establish and maintain mentor applications, and develop files for approved mentors.
  • Adhere to all volunteer requirements.
  • Interview and screen youth for mentor matching.
  • Assist with training and screening adult and youth (peer) volunteers.
  • Data entry of reports and/or summaries.
  • Collaborate with volunteer services to ensure current documentation of all mentors/volunteers.
15% - Program delivery.
  • Serve as primary facilitator of the mentors.
  • Assist with coordinating the implementation of target services and programs.
  • Solicit and secure participation as necessary for effective program support.
SUPERVISION OF: None.

SUPERVISION BY: Program Manager/Director provides general supervision.

KEY CONTACTS: Community employers, volunteers, businesses, agencies and organizations; juvenile offenders and families; Court Officers.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Some work is sedentary in office environment; significant local travel involved in visiting community service sites of offenders and in calling on community businesses; regular participation with juvenile offenders in work projects; occasional transportation of youth.

PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS USED: Telephone; court and personal vehicle; computer, keyboard and printer; case history files; various reports and forms, both handwritten and computer generated; audio visual equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent course work in a related field.
      EXPERIENCE: One year of related experience working with at risk youth.EXAMPLES OF WORK:

      • Make weekly contact with matched volunteers, mentors and families.
      • Assist with planning and implementing annual mentor/volunteer events.
      • Communicate with Court personnel, school personnel, families, referral agencies and other organizations on behalf of the mentoring program and as representatives of the agency.
      • Match mentors/volunteers one-to-one or small group with Court involved youth.
      • Planning and Implementing a community based activities program.
      • Represent agency in the community.
      • Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to assist with program application completions and other program requirements and or expectations.
      • Keep agency current on all volunteer screening issues and techniques.
      • Assist in other program functions as required, such as special events, to support the program.
      • Assist with identifying, evaluate and propose solutions to program areas that need special attention.
      • Plan and implement events for matched mentors and mentees.
      • Develop a professional development plan identifying personal goals, objectives.
      • Ensure that program services are carried out, such as activities, follow-up support to matches and life skills workshop as needed.
      • Work with the Residential Director, Facility Manager, Program Manager and consultants to develop and implement ongoing evaluation procedures.
      • Provide reports as needed to Program Manager, including monthly data reports, logic models;
      • Take lead role exploring community collaborations & developing supplemental support services for youth;
      • Serve as a member of the Staff Leadership Team.
      • Manage a caseload of mentor matches meeting the Juvenile Justice criteria.
      SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
      • Minimum age requirement is 25 years old.
      • Must have valid driver’s license from state of residence, and provide proof of such.
      • Must have auto liability insurance, and properly licensed/reliable vehicle, and provide proof of such.
      • Must submit to and pass sex offender registry check, and MO/KS child abuse & neglect checks.
      • Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by the Court.
      • All applicants for this position are subject to testing for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
      • Employees in this position are subject to random and reasonable suspicion testing for illegal drug use.
      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
      • Knowledge of Juvenile Justice youth and or Family Court involved youth.
      • Ability to supervise, motivate, and support Juvenile Justice youth and or Family Court involved youth.
      • Patient and ability to relate using strength based approach, support youth, families and mentors from a variety of cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to build positive relationships with youth, families and mentors.
      • Ability to be an advocate for youth and families.
      • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, prepare clear, complete and logical reports.
      • Strong Public Speaking and facilitation skills.
      • Excellent organizational & time management skills.
      • Demonstrate leadership skills and experience.
