Job Summary:
As the Distribution Manager, you will be a key leader overseeing warehousing, materials management, receivals & shipments, and distribution processes. You will manage a team of material handlers and distribution supervisors across shifts, ensuring materials are received and handled correctly, they are efficiently stored, and pre-positioned for production lines; finished products stored and/or shipped in a timely and adequate manner, either to the warehouse, to co-packing or to customers. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new plant start-up and play a vital role in streamlining our distribution processes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Materials Management: Oversee materials management processes, from receival to, pre-positioning ensuring efficient handling and availability of materials to support uninterrupted production.
  • Shipping Coordination: Manage shipping operations, coordinating with carriers and logistics teams to ensure receivals and on-time deliveries, outbound shipping meeting customers' needs and expectations, while optimizing transportation costs.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and supervise material handlers and distribution supervisors across shifts, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure a high-performing and motivated workforce.
  • Process Optimization: Streamline distribution processes, develop SOPs, and implement best practices to improve efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize errors in material handling, order prepping & picking, and shipping.
  • Inventory Control: Implement effective inventory control measures to track materials and finished goods, ensure accurate counts, and minimize discrepancies, contributing to cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with planning, production, procurement, logistics and warehousing, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of distribution activities that impact production operations.
  • Safety Compliance: Prioritize safety in distribution activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards to maintain a safe working environment.
  • System Implementation and Expertise: Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and WMS system to manage warehouse inventory and system performance. Determine the best set-up and policies for WMS and inventory management, and the system's implementation. Training and team members and maintenance while defining business requirements to be most effective.
  • Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Collaborate with finance and senior management to develop and manage the distribution budget and allocate resources effectively to meet distribution goals and projects.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of materials management, shipping processes, and distribution best practices. Customer service knowledge/experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, providing excellent service to internal and external partners.
  • Passion for operational excellence, safety, and fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience (10 years) in distribution management, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team of material handlers and supervisors, fostering collaboration and professional growth.

Work Environment:

Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.

  • Significant amount of time working at a computer station.
  • Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor.
  • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
  • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
