Department: 36905 AMC Grafton - Cardiovascular Diagnostics Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: 1st shift. No weekends or holidays. Major Responsibilities: Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, IONM, portable inpatient EEG's, ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during Intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) and Evoke Potentials by applying suitable electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head, checking the performance of the electrodes, calibrating and adjusting the test apparatus and selecting both predetermined and special electrode combinations dependent on the individual case under study. Prepares patient for exam and performs exams and procedures. Gathers a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from patient, patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications. Explains test procedures to patient and family members. Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. This may include appropriate control setting changes on the equipment, use of extra electrodes, extra montages and use of activation procedures. Recognizes patient or environmental artifact. Documents, eliminates or takes proper measure to monitor the artifact. Devises and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinic use. Performs Intraoperative Monitoring. Assists physicians in outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs as needed. Performs Cerebral Death Evaluation studies. Performs TCD (Transcranial Ultrasound of the Circle of Willis). Provides guidance and leadership to staff within the department at all times. Takes lead on projects, software/hardware updates and technical issues. Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor immediately. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), and Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), and Certified Long Term Monitoring (CLTM) issued by ABRET or Certified Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) certification issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), or Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) registration issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), or Evoked Potentials Technologist Registration (R. EP T.) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), or Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.) certification issued by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) Education Required: Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Science or related field. Experience Required: Typically requires 3 years of experience in performing neurodiagnostic procedures. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position. Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills. Intermediate computer skills. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job. Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards. Must sit, stand, walk, twist, and lift throughout the workday. Must be able to: lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. lift up to 20 lbs. over the head. carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Work environment may contain potential for exposure to blood and body fluids or other unpleasant fumes or hazards and, therefore, must have ability to work in that type of environment and wear protective clothing as necessary.
