We are looking for an Associate Microbiologist to join our Food Safety Quality & Regulatory Affairs team in Omaha, Nebraska! This is a great opportunity to begin or expand your career in Microbiology. As the Associate Microbiologist, reporting to a Senior Microbiologist, you will draw upon your education and experience in microbiology to analyze and study the general properties of bacteria and other microorganisms in both food and food processing environments through applied research and routine testing at the Corporate Microbiology Laboratory. You will conduct a wide range of tests to assess that quality specifications have been met. Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants or employees can dine at our large onsite cafeteria. Join us for yoga or strength training classes offered at the onsite fitness center. Conagra's facilities in Omaha are state-of-the-art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and a 50,000 square foot pilot plant. Position Responsibilities Analyzes ingredients, products, and related samples for spoilage and pathogenic microorganisms. Plans and conducts applied research projects such as shelf-life studies, challenge studies and other special projects upon request with assistance. Analysis of new methods for detecting, enumerating and identifying microorganisms of concern. Assists in maintaining requirements for ISO 17025. (International Organization for Standardization, global quality standard for testing and calibration laboratories) Assists in developing, writing and updating, laboratory SOP’s and approved procedures. Participates in the API proficiency program. Guides and helps laboratory technicians. Maintains accurate and detailed laboratory data and notebooks. Maintains and calibrates instruments and equipment as well as a clean laboratory environment. Prepares and edits technical reports. Position Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemistry or a science related field. 1 year related laboratory experience. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic knowledge of food safety, food development processes, and aseptic technique. Good interpersonal and relationship skills. Ability to follow technical procedures. Ability to collect and analyze data, draw conclusions based on facts, and write concise reports. Physical Requirements Operating laboratory equipment Standing for majority of 8-hour shift Lifting/moving up to 40 lbs. Exposure to odors associated with microbiological testing Exposure to manufacturing environments for up to 8 hours per workday including loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and all food allergens We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future. This role is typically in the office Monday - Friday. Every 4-6 weeks, there may be a few hours required to work on the weekend but will still remain a 40-hour work week. The lab is open from 6am - 6pm so typical shift will be 8 hours during that timeframe plus a one-hour lunchbreak.
