Job Summary

• Responsible for overall operation of the deli, deli managers hire staff, purchase food and stock, and make sure everyone is trained on proper food preparation, kitchen safety techniques and health standards.

• Deli managers set daily and weekly cleaning schedules for the kitchen, hire, train and discipline employees and set work schedules.

• Keep tabs on food cost, waste and employee hours, doing their best to optimize profit and create the best dining experience possible for customers.

Responsibilities and Duties

Manage daily activities of employees to improve sales performance.

Supervise employees in various duties such as cooking, serving, packaging, and operating counters.

Manage product storage, maintenance and rotation activities to avoid any damages or spoilages.

Assist in preparation of inventory and sales budgets.

Analyze profit and loss statements and recommend improvements to meet department goals.

Schedule and assign works for associates on daily basis.

Assist in interviewing, hiring and training associates.

Provide training to staff on company policies and sales guidelines.

Respond to queries and complaints from both customer and employee.

Ensure employees follow company policies and store rules.

Coordinate with employees to operate the Deli store to achieve sales goals.

• Develop sales promotion programs to attract more customers.

• Ensure that products are properly labeled with prices and dates.

• Monitor and maintain stock inventory levels to avoid over and under stock problems.

• Interact politely with clients while solving problems related to sales, dissatisfied service and issues regarding store operation.

• Operate all food preparation machines and equipment.

• Receive, unload and stock the food items.

• Ensure that facility is maintained neat, clean and safe.

Qualifications and Skills

• Customer-Service: Deli managers might have to interact with customers. Being friendly and courteous will help keep customers coming back.
• Attention to Detail: Deli managers have to keep their eyes on a lot of elements: food standards, costs, safety, etc.
• Leadership: Deli managers must be leaders in the kitchen, rallying their team during heavy shifts, resolving conflicts and getting the job done.
• Management Skills: Deli managers not only deal with food, they also have to deal with costs, pricing, creating work schedules and more.
• Organizational Skills: Keeping work schedules, shipments, cleaning schedules and more organized is crucial to the job.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Dealing with employee conflict, irate customers and wrong stock orders is part of a Deli manager's job. Being able to come up with a solution quickly is a needed skill.
• Speaking Skills: Deli managers need to accurately and easily communicate standards and cooking methods to staff, give orders and speak with customers clearly.
• Stamina: Deli managers can expect long days around hot cooking elements, much of it on their feet.
