Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our team and oversee all aspects of financial management and reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in accounting and finance, combined with a proactive approach to process improvement and compliance. This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, implementing robust systems and controls, and ensuring compliance with tax and licensing requirements across multiple states. This role is not remote, it is in office, however, there is an option for hybrid with time. Note that I am open to a part-time role of 25-30 hours a week, however, there will be times during the month which will require 40/hours a week, so this is something that can be discussed during the interview process.

Essential Responsibilities:

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Review and approve invoices in Sage Intacct and RAMP, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies.
  • Perform monthly journal entries and reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Reconcile and pay monthly credit card statements
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis, providing insights into business performance and trends.
  • Develop and maintain overhead budgets, tracking actual performance against budgeted targets.
  • Assist with the evaluation of market trends & provide insight on new opportunities aligned with Centrex 3-year goals and company strategy
  • Direct and oversee vendor compliance staff and processes
  • Assist with cash flow management and forecasting
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the organization
  • CEO/CFO/COO support as assigned.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for streamlining financial processes and implementing best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic financial initiatives aligned with company goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting and analysis, leveraging technology and automation where possible.

Compliance and Tax Management

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of tax and licensing requirements in the 13 western states where we operate.
  • Establish and document processes for obtaining and maintaining business licenses in new cities and states, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • Prepare and file monthly tax returns, including sales tax, use tax, and other state-specific taxes as required.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as needed to ensure timely and accurate compliance of tax returns and year end reviewed financial statements.

General Oversight

  • Develop and oversee junior staff mentorship program and ensure career progression for performing junior staff members – 100% effective employee
  • Responsible to assess, confront and if needed, dismiss underperforming or misaligned
  • Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others

Secondary Responsibilities:

Included but not limited to:

  • Primary backup for CFO/AP/AR and payroll processing
  • Perform as a viable leader in our industry(s) and actively participate in industry associations, organizations, and charities as necessary to remain at top of market
  • Commit to Centrex’s policies and procedures
  • Lead, manage and support Centrex initiatives
  • Drive and uphold the Centrex Core Values

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles, preferably in the construction or contracting industry. Public accounting experience is also preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting software (we use Sage Intacct) and ERP systems, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience with multi-state tax compliance and licensing requirements highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
