Position Description: 

This position is multi-faceted due to the variety of care based services that may be provided by this staff member depending on their specific client(s), including maintaining client safety, providing or assisting with daily living and self-care skills, and behavioral health interventions as needed.

Primary job responsibility is to provide services to children or young adults with autism and/or related disorders in a 1:1 setting within the client’s home or community settings. Respite workers provide temporary care for client(s) with physical, emotional, or cognitive limitations. Your duties will include coordinating care with other caregivers and TBH team members, providing companionship, and supervising activities.

Training will be provided by the organization to ensure competence and knowledge of treatment modalities for clients. Training will cover the knowledge of CPR and first aid, trauma-informed care strategies, and behavioral health interventions used for de-escalation. A respite worker is someone who can be relied upon to perform their duties with patience and compassion

Minimum Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicate effectively including in a timely manner following company requirements (within 24 hours); model of quality documentation; proactive communication with leadership
• Knowledge and competent use of computer, internet navigation, email management, electronic health record systems
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to situational events
• Ability to conduct all daily living and self-care activities with clients 
• Reliable, punctual, excellent attendance (e.g., has reliable transportation to and from work)
• Respond positively to and immediately implement feedback accordingly
• Ability to positively interact with clients, families, and other stakeholders

Education and/or Experience Requirements: High School Degree or equivalent and at least 18 years of age. 

Duties, Responsibilities, and Competencies

1. Providing client(s) with assistance, companionship, and comfort in their daily living activities. 
2. Facilitating appropriate behavioral health interventions, such as de-escalation strategies, when appropriate.
3. Engaging clients in suitable activities, such as socializing, leisure activities, and/or daily living activities. 
4. Assisting clients with mobility, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and toileting (if applicable for assigned clients) 
5. Maintaining a hygienic and safe environment for clients. 
6. Complete designated documentation for respite services provided to clients accurately and in a timely manner.

Physical activity:

• Will spend substantial time standing, sitting, speaking and listening. 
• Must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. 
• Ability to travel via personal vehicle to our facilities and community settings. 
• Remail, “Fit For Duty” at all times, including but not limited to performing job responsibilities in a safe, secure, and effective manner and remaining able to do so throughout the entire time they are working is essential 

Equipment and software Operation: 

This position will require operation of all of the following equipment:

• Telephone, cell phone, fax
• Computer, printer, copy machine, and related equipment
• Google platform or similar, EHR system, electronic payroll and time-clock system

**A service based structure requires consistent attendance. If the employee has excessive absences, they will be placed on an improvement plan, disciplinary action, and/or be terminated. **Respite service is client-specific which means that the client’s enrollment in OhioRISE is mandatory for the respite provider to continue employment at Transitions-BH as a respite provider.
