City of Bloomington, Indiana is Hiring an After Hours Ambassador (2 Open Positions) Near Bloomington, IN

Serves as a liaison between nightlife establishments, City departments, law enforcement, Indiana University student and staff groups, and residents to improve downtown hospitality, safety, and attractiveness.This job description is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all job functions performed. The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation:
 
Essential (primary)
 
Develops and strengthens relationships with businesses, social service organizations, and residential stakeholder groups in the downtown sector. 
 
Facilitates downtown strategy based on collaboration with City departments and community stakeholders to improve downtown quality of life. Specifically focused on initiatives to enhance downtown hospitality. 
Monitors the implementation of the recommendations of the Safety, Civility and Justice Task Force. 
 
Reports on trends, challenges, and opportunities. Makes policy recommendations to City department based on findings. 
 
Interprets state and local ordinances to nightlife establishment owners/managers or residents, as necessary.
 
Provides directions, resources, and other pertinent information for visitors, students, and residents who are downtown in the evening.
 
Maintains relationships with local agencies providing assistance to persons who are experiencing homelessness or in need of other resources.
 
Non-essential (secondary)
Performs other duties as assigned.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 
 
At least 3 years of experience working with the nightlife and entertainment industry is preferred. Experience communicating policies and/or procedures, required. 
Knowledge of the city’s geography and nightlife establishments.
 
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to community issues related to student life, homelessness, and substance use disorder.
 
Demonstrated ability to approach problems and resolve conflicts and/or implement programs using innovative thinking based on best practices and performance metrics.
 
Training in de-escalation techniques or ability to complete training within six months of employment.
Difficulty of Work
The majority of work is performed outside of the office although incumbent will be expected to attend meeting directly related to the work of the department and the position. The physical demands of the work are minimal. Work is mainly performed in a highly visible environment and requires evening and weekend work.
 
Personal Work Relationships
Must establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including co-workers, business owners and managers, City and other government officials, Indiana University staff and students groups, media and general public. Contact occurs during varied situations and circumstances, often requiring tact and use of persuasion to gain cooperation in face of differences of opinions
