Job Summary

This is a Part-Time Tutor I pool position located in the Learning Commons Department. Applications are considered and reviewed based on departmental needs. Should a review of your application result in the intent to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by phone or email for an interview. Remote work opportunities will be evaluated according to student demand and on a case-by-case basis. Seeking tutors in the following areas:

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.

Essential Duties

  • Tutor diverse student populations in various subject areas
  • Answer academic questions, providing examples relating to the subject
  • Provide analytic and diagnostic services to increase student success
  • Ensure students individual learning needs are met
  • Refer students to necessary campus support services
  • Evaluate and recommend tutoring materials
  • Facilitate review sessions, workshops and trainings
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Recommendation from instructor(s) of course one will tutor
  • Overall GPA of 2.50
  • Earned a B or higher in the course(s) one will tutor
  • Good Academic standing with the college
  • Master of course(s) being tutored
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Capable of working with both faculty and students
  • Ability to be empathic to students with difficulties
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Posses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Posses good interpersonal skills to perform successfully in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to be well organized, task-oriented and flexible
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends at various locations
Preferences

Prefer one (1) year work experience in post-secondary institution tutoring setting.
