Your Impact: 

Lead Safety strategies, programs, and best practices across our markets to ensure the safety of our team and significantly reduce accident frequency, revolutionizing our approach and enhancing operational efficiency. 

  • Ensure terminal managers follow company safety regulations and stay in compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA rules. 
  • Travel to facilities countrywide to audit and ensure terminals comply with all safety regulations. 
  • Develop and implement safety programs and procedures for owner operators, their drivers, W2 drivers and subcontractors. 
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and develop corrective action plans - Deliver safety training to all employees, owner operators and drivers.
  • Coordinate and work with terminal managers to ensure ninety-day truck inspections get completed on time.
  • Monitor and coordinate inspections on all company owned or leased equipment .
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOP) for a safety related items and create long term goal objectives.
  • Coordinate with various transportation related vendors to adopt and implement best safety practices for the employees, drivers and company.

Develop strategic partnerships with insurance vendors to cultivate robust industry relationships, driving tangible bottom-line results through innovative collaboration and optimized risk management solutions. 

  • Set creative strategies with partners to drive accident frequency rate.
  • Provide expertise and knowledge around insurance programs such as auto liability, general liability, physical damage, non-trucking liability, OCAC and how accidents/incidents impact coverage and premiums.

Strategically align with the People Team to craft and implement cutting-edge compensation and reward strategies, positioning our company as the top choice for owner-operators and W2 employees. 

  • Develop safety bonus program for owner operators - Develop and implement a fleet safety management program leveraging technology.
  • Partner with operational leadership to employ necessary strategies to create a culture of safety within all our markets.
  • Partner with People team to ensure Hauler communication is thoughtful and programmed.

Collaborate with the Compliance Department and leverage innovative strategies and meticulous oversight to achieve DOT compliance and establish document management protocols, ensuring seamless operations and mitigating risks. 

  • Maintain safety records and reports including driver qualification files, equipment maintenance records, accident files, etc. 
  • Ensure the company and its processes comply with all applicable safety regulations including FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure safety standards and processes are followed during the onboarding process for all owner operators and subcontractors.
  • Keep detailed files of all fleet equipment including chassis, trucks, yard goats, etc. company operates. 

Champion the claims administration process, orchestrating a seamless operation to guarantee prompt, precise reporting, processing, and resolution, thereby safeguarding our organization's interests, enhancing stakeholder trust, and fortifying our reputation for excellence in service delivery. 

  • Ensure all claims are properly reported in a timely manner.
  • Develop relationship with claims administrator and work with them to effectively handle claims including establishing reserve amounts.
  • Coordinate with claims administrator and attorneys regarding claims settlement amounts; attending mediations as necessary.
  • Manage the process to ensure proactive communication with haulers to efficiently open and close claims.

Create and oversee our asset management program and process by implementing proactive safety measures that safeguard our valuable resources, minimize downtime, and optimize operational efficiency, driving sustained growth and success for the organization. 

  • Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of the company's fleet of trucks, trailers, and other vehicles.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure that all trucks are in optimal condition and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and control expenses related to vehicle maintenance, repairs, fuel, and other operational costs to optimize the company's financial performance.
  • Implement tracking systems to monitor the location, usage, and performance of company vehicles, enabling efficient fleet management and asset utilization.
  • Manage relationships with maintenance providers, parts suppliers, leasing companies, and other vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective services.
  • Develop long-term asset management strategies and initiatives to support the company's growth objectives, optimize fleet operations, and maximize asset value. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or additional equivalent work experience required 
  • Relevant certifications such as CSP or CDS are preferred 
  • Minimum of 10 years of safety management in the transportation industry
  • Have knowledge of and experience working with intra and interstate commerce
  • Strong fundamentals and experience with DOT, OSHA and FMCSA regulations 
  • Proven experience in safety leadership roles within logistics, transportation, or trucking industry 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, changing behavior of drivers, market leaders and terminal managers
  • Experience in a M&A environment highly preferred 
  • Proficiency in analyzing safety data and implementing data-driven solutions
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving industry 
  • Strong technical and computer skills and interest in utilizing technology including using a TMS and MS products (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting software 
  • Knowledge of Fleetworthy (CPSuite), Infiniti-I, Samsara and Samba preferred 
  • Experience with asset management a plus
