Job Description The Team: This person will be the primary support for U.S. legislative and regulatory initiatives. They should be able to handle all of the advocacy duties for the office when the Head of U.S. Government Affairs is on travel for client or internal business or on vacation. They will need to be able to manage issue campaigns and coalitions, collaborate and strategize with key industry trades, interact with policymakers at all levels of government, engage with clients, and garner the confidence of senior executives within Invesco. You will be responsible for: Help drive the federal legislative, regulatory, and political agendas, and facilitate access to strategically important policymakers and influencers, such that resulting government actions are aligned with company goals. Support thought leadership efforts in key policy areas, including issue research, writing, and presentation design. In collaboration with the Head of U.S. Government Affairs, execute a proactive federal public policy and stakeholder management program to impact favorably the company’s operating environment in the United States. Assist in developing and implementing Invesco’s strategies as they relate to issues including, but not limited to the following: domestic and international tax policy, fund regulation, financial services regulatory reform, systemic risk, capital markets, and retirement policy. Establish and maintain high-level contacts with a wide variety of industry and non-industry individuals and groups who can compel/promote public, community, and government actions favorable to the company. Develop a strong corporate brand presence and build Invesco’s relationship with key policymakers in Washington. Consult with and advise members of Invesco senior management on relevant government affairs and public policy matters to ensure alignment of company goals and objectives. Create and maintain a pro-active calendar of events to increase Invesco thought leadership visibility on industry-related topics. Ability to engage clients to provide timely, thoughtful analysis of political and policy activities in Washington. The qualifications you bring: At least 7 years of professional level experience in public policy and government affairs. Experience in financial services / asset management public policy is strongly preferred. Established access to Members of Congress and key congressional staff is required. Knowledge of navigating trade associations, managing external consultants, and partnering with third-party group to maximize effectiveness. Ability to navigate a corporate environment to seamlessly integrate work into the corporate ecosystem. Prior lobbying experience is beneficial but not required. Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required: Knowledge of the U.S. legal, legislative, and regulatory structure for asset managers and other kinds of financial service providers. Knowledge of the legislative process as well as an understanding of the interrelationship between the legislative process and the U.S. political process. Knowledge of investment and financial services products offered to individuals and institutional clients including: ETFs, mutual funds, institutional separate accounts, and alternative investments. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills. Understanding of compliance laws regulating political activity. Strong communication skills, including, strong interpersonal skills, public speaking, and clear and concise written communications. Ability to be persuasive and influential. High integrity and a reputation for political neutrality. Ability to analyze and interpret legislative and regulatory documents, think strategically and devise action plans to advance legislative agenda and manage issues, implement strategies independently, and make tactical decisions. This position will require 10-20% travel. Formal Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in political science, economics, public administration, or a related field required; a Master’s preferred. Candidates with equivalent lobbying or political experience lobbying on financial services issues for the private sector will also be considered. . The salary range for this position in Washington is $160,000 - $180,000/ year. The total compensation offered for this position includes salary and incentive pay and will vary based on skills, experience and location.
