Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and growth-oriented Principal Research Associate to join our laboratory automation team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with groups across the organization to develop solutions in support of our Analytical Operations, Cell Biology, NGS, and High Throughput Screening workflows. The candidate will contribute to scoping, sourcing, building, and deploying scalable automation infrastructure to serve the evolving needs of a growing organization.

The ideal candidate will have 3 years of hands-on experience with programming various automated liquid handlers (Beckman, Hamilton, Tecan preferred) as well as onboarding and working with more sophisticated integrated automation solutions.Drive to execute, experimental rigor, and scientific curiosity are key! We are a small and growing company, so the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving priorities is a must.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the automation team lead, support and coordinate multiple parallel automation development projects to automate particle production, high throughput cell-based screening, cell line development, analytical assays, NGS library prep, and other emerging needs throughout the organization.
  • Evaluate vendors / device offerings to help design, propose, and onboard integrated system builds to enhance throughput of key workflows at Nvelop.
  • Apply experience programming, testing, troubleshooting, and deploying automated solutions to increase throughput and decrease hands-on time across the organization.
  • Independently develop and deploy automation methods on Beckman i7 / i5 instruments.
  • Collaborate with science team members to gather requirements, run tests and generate pilot datasets to validate new automation methods / equipment.
  • Responsible for regular maintenance of Nvelop’s automation equipment including quarterly calibrations and day to day troubleshooting / maintenance / user training.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, biology, engineering disciplines, or a related field with 5 years of academic / biotech industry experience
  • Significant hands-on development experience with Beckman, Hamilton, or comparable automated liquid handling platforms is required (3 years ideally)
  • Scripting / programming abilities in common languages such as Python, C , C#, JavaScript etc. are strongly preferred
  • Experience working with Benchling ELN is strongly preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills
  • Desire to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Experience with NGS technologies and library prep is a major plus

Additional Requirements:

Full time in-person work is necessary for our laboratory-based positions. We work in facilities that require that all individuals working on-site are vaccinated for COVID-19. Position Title and Salary will be commensurate with Experience
