The Director, Strategic Planning, Commercial plans and directs all strategic, administrative, financial, and operational activities for the organization's CCO. Organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive to enable efficient decision making. This role acts as a point of contact, proxy or enabler between senior leadership and other stakeholders. Provides insight and guidance to projects of high importance and may function as an advisor to the chief executive.

Purpose and Accountabilities

  • Accountable for collaborating with senior leadership to determine and prioritize business strategies for a complex set of programs and critical initiatives and for maintaining alignment and identifying interdependencies between all program level work efforts.
  • Collaborate with various business partners, cross functional teams, and key stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate and on budget implementation of initiatives and business priorities supporting the BSC and annual strategic and financial plans.
  • Manage and oversee products/programs and implement tools/enhancements to ensure new strategies are successfully developed and implemented as agreed on with functional owners.
  • Review and supports the development of comprehensive business cases to support new program opportunities/enhancements and weigh in on key performance indicators and metrics.
  • Works closely with functional owners to define and measure the desired business outcomes and articulate those in the program and project value statements.
  • Develop and deliver executive level and Board level presentations, articulating the business objectives, project/program/function unit progress, challenges, and successes in meeting stated objectives.
  • Tracks and monitors the introduction of new strategies, programs, or practices across CCO team - based on Board or CEO requirements, executive direction and/or industry or market influence.
  • Manage Commercial data and governance process to support our Balanced Scorecard, Monthly operating review (MOR), ExCo and OpCo. Leverage data to provide predictive insights, inform progress on strategies, identify, and prioritize new opportunities that inform future investments and initiatives.

Change Management:

  • Collaborates and provides objective consultative advice with areas impacted by functional or enterprise initiatives to enable their successful implementation.
  • Recommends changes to functional practices and processes to ensure successful change implementation and business case realization.
  • Effectively identifies potential barriers or conflicts; facilitates conflict resolution; enables effective communication and collaboration to gain consensus or support.

CCO Organization Effectiveness:

  • Operates as a confidant to the CCO on a variety of issues including sensitive and confidential situations. Is a truth teller and can be direct and transparent as appropriate.
  • Organizes monthly Global Commercial Council, Quarterly Commercial reviews and contributes to team meeting agendas.
  • Reports to CCO on progress of functional initiatives on a weekly basis.
  • Tracks performance to plan - metrics and advises CCO of hot spots or opportunities.
  • Work with CCO to define strategic planning G&O and oversee end-to-end execution on planning process as directed by CCO. Runs annual strategic planning process.
  • Lead and manage special projects that includes cross-functional and matrixed individuals from development to execution.
  • Ensures adequate communication between team members, functions, and stakeholders regarding progress on initiatives and priorities.
  • Monitors functional initiatives to provide visibility and alignment.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and recommends alternatives or changes to practices, processes; influences and/or leads successful change implementation and business case realization.
  • Establish and monitor relevant global metrics.

Enterprise Risk Management:

  • Oversee Global Commercial Risk program, inclusive of identifying and setting key measures as part of the Balanced Scorecard planning cycle and partnering regionally with Risk leaders to drive key priorities to meet annual goals.
  • Sits as Commercial Representative on Enterprise Risk Council.
  • Own and mature US and Canada Business Continuity and Client Disaster Recovery response programs, ensuring Element can continue to run business-critical processes for our shareholders, employees, and clients in case of a medium, large, or catastrophic event to protect the company's value and our client's business.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required (Engineering, Business, Finance, Strategy or Sales related field)
  • 10 years of experience in Project management, Financial Planning, Consulting, overseeing initiatives and people with senior-level relationship management.
  • Must have excellent oral and written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have strong financial acumen.
  • Process oriented, proven resource management and initiatives experience, and the ability to drive multiple tasks/projects in parallel.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex (matrix) project teams to deliver results; working across organizational boundaries to solve complex business issues.
  • Superior negotiation, coordination, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Six Sigma, Lean or other best practice frameworks.

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Strategic thinker, analytical.
  • Distill complex strategies, information, data into clear, documents for executive audiences; Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Experience engaging/managing/consulting multiple key stakeholders with demonstrated hands-on delivery approach.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed; Ability to accept ambiguity and drive for clarity and results.
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Exceptional collaborator - invokes confidence, trust and in turn, encourages accountability, partnership, and transparency.
