Job Summary:

As an Editor of a magazine producing both print and digital content, your responsibilities would encompass a range of tasks to ensure high-quality content creation and publication across platforms.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Oversees the day-to-day workflow and output of the department, prioritizing and assigning projects.

· Provides guidance and leadership on projects; creates and implements additional training and development as needed.

· Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

· Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

· Hires temporary or contract help as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Develop editorial calendars for both print and digital platforms.

· Plan content themes, features, and special editions.

· Coordinate with writers, photographers, and designers to execute content plans effectively.

· Ensure content aligns with the magazine's target audience and overall brand strategy.

· Commission articles, interviews, and other content pieces.

· Edit and proofread articles for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and style.

· Ensure consistency in tone, style, and voice across all content.

· Write and edit headlines, subheadings, and captions.

· Oversee the publication of digital content on the magazine's website and social media platforms.

· Optimize digital content for search engines (SEO) and user engagement.

· Monitor website analytics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

· Stay updated on digital publishing trends and best practices.

· Coordinate with designers and printers to produce the print edition of the magazine.

· Review layouts and proofs to ensure high-quality printing.

· Manage deadlines for print production and distribution.

· Supervise a team of writers, editors, and other content creators.

· Provide feedback, guidance, and training to team members.

· Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.

· Coordinate with other departments such as marketing, sales, and distribution.

· Ensure content adheres to ethical standards and copyright laws.

· Verify facts and sources to maintain the magazine's credibility.

· Monitor potential legal issues and address them appropriately.

· Monitor reader feedback and engagement with content.

· Use reader insights to inform content decisions and improvements.

· Engage with readers through social media, events, and other platforms.

· Manage editorial budgets, including freelance payments, equipment, and other expenses.

· Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising content quality.

· Keep abreast of industry trends and innovations in both print and digital publishing.

· Experiment with new formats, storytelling techniques, and platforms to engage audiences.

· Adapt editorial strategies based on changing audience preferences and market dynamics.

· Serve as a spokesperson for the magazine at events, conferences, and media appearances.

· Uphold the magazine's brand identity and reputation in all interactions.

· All other duties assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Excellent writing and editing skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Proficient with text management and desktop publishing software.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, or similar software.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field required.

· Five years of editing experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
