Overview

Sacred Heart Academy SHA Bryn Mawr (PA) is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay-owned and governed since 1969.

Serving approximately 200 students in kindergarten through twelfth-grade, the School is seeking an energetic Lower School Assistant Teacher in anticipation of the 2024-25 school year.

This is a part-time position.

The Lower School Assistant Teacher will employ the Responsive Classroom approach to build safe, positive, and inclusive classroom communities.

They will nurture close and caring relationships with students and families, and work collaboratively with faculty to help each student meet their greatest potential.

Expected time commitment is 4 hours / day.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Lead Teacher on planning curriculum and lessons
• Plan lessons and facilitate small group learning in partnership with Lead Teacher
• Assist the Lead Teacher with reviewing completed student work
• Supervise student transitions within and outside of the classroom
• Support the healthy social and emotional development of each child
• Provide careful supervision of students during snack, recess, and lunch
• Help the Lead Teacher set up and maintain the classroom at the start of each day
• Share responsibility for creating and updating classroom communication
• Accompany students to specials classes, etc.
• Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing for conferences and in writing report cards
• Attend faculty meetings as needed
• Participate in extra duties recess duty) as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field
• A passion for teaching and learning
• A desire to work with young children
• Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community; experience in and demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community preferred
• Appreciation of and commitment to single gender education
• Eagerness to contribute positively to the SHA community and uphold its Mission including a commitment to the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria
• Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, and flexibility to the school environment
