The CMM programmer/Metrology Technician performs inspection (receiving, in-process, final product) for compliance to specifications as available from drawings, job tickets, and samples etc. The inspection results are typically reported in AS9102 format to be delivered to the customers.

In addition to the standard measuring equipment (Caliper and Micrometer etc.) the Technician uses visual CMM and touch probe to measure products during inspection. As such, this position is responsible for CMM programming using strong knowledge of Measure X and Measure-mind Software as well as touch probe. Dispositions of any deviation found need to be addressed teaming up with Metrology Manager and others as needed.

Additionally, the Technician will be responsible for other metrology tasks .

This position requires exposure to information which is subject to US export control regulations, i.e. the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections on a variety of products and related assembly components, of various size and complexity, using CMM and other standard or special inspection equipment available.
  • Reviews associated documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Using advanced knowledge and application of CMM Programming skills, creates CMM programs for new and existing parts.
  • Applies concepts of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T) as applicable.
  • Provides support for New Product Development and Tool Design with respect to programming and fixture design for new parts.
  • Supports continuous improvement of CMM Programs for efficiency and accuracy using proper measurement techniques.
  • Applies knowledge and use of sampling plans to affect an increase or reduction in product verifications when required.
  • Conducts capability studies from the CMM as required.
  • Performs Gage Reliability and Repeatability (GR&R) as needed.
  • Understands gage calibration/control and assists gage control personnel with gage calibration when needed.
  • Performs statistical analysis of data in QC Calc software on CMM.
  • Executes probe calibration program independently, creates programming using touch probe and understanding of the different usage/application of different styli.
  • Develops and maintains part setup, utilizing CMM fixturing for more precise measurements and consistent setups the same way each time.
  • Contacts other personnel to arrange meetings for disposition of non-conforming product.
  • Participates in brain-storming for efficient ways to improve CMM programming, and be willing to share/train peers on the knowledge achieved.
  • Successfully complete a drug screen and background check.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate Degree or an Associate Degree preferably in an Engineering discipline. At least 1 year of experience in programming of measuring routines using Measure-X and Measure mind software. More experience desirable with Associate degree.
  • At least intermediate knowledge of understanding drawings and GD&T concepts (profile and true positioning).
  • Knowledge of touch probe usage.
  • Experience using universal fixturing for setup of various shapes of parts.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS office programs.
