Healthcare for Kids is Hiring a Pediatric Registered Nurse Near San Antonio, TX

HealthCare for Kids is looking for an Administrator Registered Nurse to oversee operations for our Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC) for medically complex children. Our hours of operation are 6:00am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday. If you are interested in changing the lives of children while never working nights, weekends or holidays, we invite you to apply.

Do you qualify?

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas with no disciplinary action
  • Must meet one of the following requirements; (A) one year of pediatric specialty experience with emphasis on medically and technologically dependent minors, obtained within the previous five years; or (B) sufficient skills to meet the competency and training requirements as determined by the State of Texas
  • The alternate DON of a center must have two years of experience in supervision and management in a pediatric health care setting and meet one of the following criteria: (1) be a physician licensed in Texas to practice medicine in accordance with Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 155; (2) be an RN with a master's or baccalaureate degree in nursing and be licensed under the Nursing Practice Act, Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 301, with no disciplinary actions; (3) be a college graduate with a bachelor's degree with one additional year of supervision or management experience in a health care setting; (4) have an associate's degree in health care or administration with two additional years of supervision or management experience in a health care setting; OR (5) have an associate's degree in nursing and currently licensed under the Nursing Practice Act, Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 301, with no disciplinary action with two additional years of supervision or management experience in a health care setting.
  • Must be American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/BLS certified
  • Must be at least 25 years of age according to Texas Rules and Regulations
  • Must not have been involved as an Administrator in a DADS investigation resulting in a violation citation
  • Computer and word processing skills required
  • 3 years of experience in the delivery of healthcare services, management experience is preferred
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language, knowledge of other languages helpful

What You'll Do:

  • The ADON supports the DON and Administrator in executing the goals and objectives of the nursing department for their Center in regard to patient rights, patient care and reflects the mission statement of the PPECC Center when the DON is out of office or on leave
  • Serves as a role model to nursing staff while facilitating outcomes-based care delivery, cost management, and enhanced customer satisfaction within the context of an interdisciplinary framework
  • Provides leadership and direction for the nursing staff while being responsible for the overall management of the Nursing Department when the DON is out of office or on leave
  • Direct Child Care: Physical assessment; developmental assessment, respiratory treatments; vital signs; enteral and oral feedings; ostomy care; dressings and skin care; proper positioning and orthotics applications; medication administration by all routes; phlebotomy and IV therapy; and any other interventions ordered by a physician that are within the scope of the nursing license.
  • Parent/Child Education and Training: Formal and informal teaching directed to parent/child/guardian regarding all aspects of the child’s care, including treatments; equipment use and maintenance; stress reduction; health maintenance; rehabilitation; and any other medical, nursing, psychosocial, or developmental need. The nurse researches topics for which parents desire/need information, creates reference files for future use, and provides parents with written materials and models to facilitate teaching.
  • Developmental Interventions: Includes proper positioning; therapeutic play appropriate to age level; educational activities as appropriate, implementing the Therapy Care Plan as written by the physiotherapists; and providing a loving and nurturing environment for the child.
  • Psychosocial Support: responsible for the observation of parent/child interactions and parent’s involvement with child’s care; being available to parents for listening and providing positive support; and making referrals to Social Work or Psychologist as needed.
