JOB TITLE: Weekend VN Clinical Instructor (Fundamentals)

STATUS: Full Time/Part Time

TYPE: On Campus

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing

PURPOSE:

To provide high-quality instruction and guidance to students in their pursuit of becoming skilled and caring nurses. Smith Chason College faculty members play a vital role in fostering an engaging learning environment and facilitating student success. Nursing faculty will deliver effective instruction that aligns with the approved syllabi, guidelines, and program standards, while collaborating with fellow department team members. Additionally, faculty are expected to model professionalism in dress, action, and communication. Overall, a nursing faculty member will empower students to achieve their academic goals and prepare them for a future in the medical workforce.

The nursing department at Smith Chason College is supported by a collaborative and cohesive group of professional nurses, staff, and students. Faculty have responsibility and accountability to the nursing program and Smith Chason College. Faculty are expected to demonstrate a significant degree of excellence in teaching effectiveness. The Administrative Policy Manual includes policies and procedures faculty will adhere to. All faculty will be approved by the CA BRN prior to their hire. 

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES

  • Must meet the minimum qualifications set by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Must have a minimum of four years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught and possess a related degree at least at the same level as the course the faculty member is teaching
  • Maintain current certification(s) and or license(s) with regulatory agencies and all continuing education requirements set by Smith Chason College in the fields being taught and provide school copies of all the above on a yearly basis
  • Must have strong technical skills including all computer applications, internet research, database management, and analytical skills
  • Experienced with Canvas or related LMS usage for instruction (assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebook, modules) is preferred
  • Online, hybrid, remote or blended teaching experience is highly desirable

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Mission of Smith Chason College 
  • Prepare and maintain up-to-date syllabi for didactic and practical courses, aligning with program objectives and industry standards
  • Deliver high-quality lectures, optimize instructional resources, and set clear expectations for students
  • Provide instructions and demonstrations on nursing practices and patient care using current references and handbooks
  • Assist students with questions about protocols, procedures and policies, and provide constructive feedback
  • Hold office hours to ensure availability of assistance with assignments, course progression, and other needs by individual students
  • Demonstrate respect and empathy towards students, acknowledging and accommodating their diverse personal differences and educational needs
  • Maintain accurate academic and attendance records, submit grades promptly, and report academic success issues to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing using the appropriate forms and procedures
  • Maintain a record of students’ completion of required lab hours before the end of each course
  • Adhere to the educational institutions policies and professional codes of conduct, respecting confidentiality and upholding ethical standards
  • Incorporate team-based learning strategies, participate in faculty meetings, and foster an inclusive and diverse learning environment
  • Engage in professional development including but not limited to: completion of ATI Champion course, National Nurse Educator Certification (CNE) within three years of hire, participate in research and serve as a professional resource for the local community 
  • Demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness verified through faculty evaluation, student surveys, course and clinical outcomes and pass rates on the NCLEX 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Campus Director and Director of Nursing

  • Can independently move objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Must have sufficient hearing and speaking ability to communicate in person or on the phone/computer with others
