VISUAL ARTS TEACHER 1.0 FTE Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, 7-12, Public Charter School located in South Hadley, MA
Job DescriptionPVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic full time Visual Arts Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for an artist with a strong personal practice, to share their passion with students from 7 th to 12 th grade. The visual arts curriculum is focused on building a strong understanding of design that connects all visual media. This educator will work primarily with 7 th and 8 th grade students who will be assessed through a variety of methods using standards based grading system with the goal of supporting and challenging each student. Under the direction of the Director of Arts, you will be responsible for:
  • Teaching five classes per semester (classes range from grades 7-12).
  • Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
  • Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials.
  • Supervise students during non-class time (ex:lunch) as required.
  • Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
  • Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
  • Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences
  • Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications; Preferred QualificationsThe successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to provide an artistic portfolio, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualifications include:
  • Two or more years of experience teaching visual arts in a public or private school, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Visual Arts MTEL exam within 1 year).
  • Ability to teach drawing techniques courses, painting techniques courses, and mixed media courses
  • Knowledge of “National Standards for the Visual Arts” standards.
Other Information/InstructionsSalary Range: Full time $42,000 to $66,705 annually. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year.
2024-2025 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
